Getting this thread back on track, is there anyone out there who is close to using up their Trails on a Uly yet?

I'm leaving May 27th for a 10K mile ride to Alaska and back. Right now I'm planning on starting the trip with a new Trail front and D616 rear. Half way through the trip I'd change out for the Trail rear. I've ruled out the Sync due to the thin carcass for the long gravel stretches we plan on riding. Should I be so quick to rule out the narrower dual sport tires? I'm afraid of rim damage and need to get 5K plus out of them. For a point of reference, my stock syncs were shot in about 5K miles with about 80% of the miles on slab. From the limited reviews of the Trails I've read, they sound like they may be the best option, although life expectancy may be short???

The kickstand trick seems like it would work for narrow tires... but the lean seems a bit extreme to get the kickstand over a 190 rear.

why dont you all like the 616 i have a 07 it came with syncs.they were great on the pavement wet or dry ok on dirt roads, but wore pretty fast and were expensive i ride about 30,000 miles a year.i switched to the 616 they are alittle wiggly feeling at high speed .but this past weekend i road 100 miles offroad sand grass clay gravel .even made a 2 acre dirt trac in my hayfield now that was fun .the 616 wont wheelie in the dirt it does spin but with good body position the front tire never washed out once and the back drifts witch is a blast .in the sand its like any 500 lbs bike let it wiggle stand up and steer wih your feet is all about technique.the picture of he gs someone posted .everyone looks at he knobs but look at the riders body position .

Bzrider - what are you getting for tire life out of the D616 compared to the Sync?

Another question about the D616. Is the carcass any tougher or heavier than the Sync? If so, how does it compare to the Trail?
