Looking for a screen to minimuse the whilte knuckle hanging on effect of riding highways speedlimits (really gives me a nasty back ache after a few hours, even worst the day after!).

I am: 6'3" with 32" pant leg size.

I am no looking for no wind, just a reduction to minimise my back aches from having to hang on so damn hard. So getting the wind off my chest is fine for me (right now it hits me from the belly button up, with stock xb12x).

From the digging around I did, I found the following manufacturers of aftermarket Windscreen for the our Uly:

California Scientific,
Cee Baileys,
Gustaffson Plastics,
Parabellum,
Zero Gravity.

I saw some write-ups and stuff about most of these (except the Gustaffson), and from what I gather opinions of screens seem to be very subjective.

I am leaning towards a small Cal-Sci or a small CeeBaily, as they both offer added width may help alot, but are not too tall as to make the bike look wonky (in my eyes), and all i want is to reduce the wind on my chest.

Anybody have a pic of the gustaffson shield?
or of a small Cee Baily or Cal-Sci?

Thanks,
MMcC

I just bought a CalSci... did my first road trip (half of it highway at 70-75mph). The screen did wonders for my neck, shoulders, back... but, I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam. Very happy with it so far. After my trip to Cali and back in June, I'll have a less subjective opinion.

I went with the Madstad with a 20" tall Spyder shaped shield. It works well. 3 inches of adjustment up and down and it can be tilted fwd or back depending on where ya want the pocket.

The fly screen is replaced with an aluminum one. I had a few issues with a rattle which was mentioned that I may get with a tall shield by Mark the owner of Madstad. I was able to resolve the problem with some rubber shims here and there. If ya go with the Madstad you may want to slot the attach holes to allow for an easier install. Be carefull with the attach screws. The Buell has soft metal up front where everything attaches.

Several riders here are fans of the Palmer Brackets that use your OEM flyscreen. I have not seen the Palmers in person but there are pics on the forum some place.

I am 6' tall with a 32 inseam. I run the shield abut half way up in its adjustment. I normally ride with my full face shield up. The tall shield allows for this and most of the bugs are directed over my head and the shield is well below line of sight. Good luck.

I too have been looking at all options.
I am 6ft w/ a 32in inseam.

from what I have read. when you get a nice tall screen there is a lot of wind from under the screen.

so far, on the top of my list after all the research and dont want to fork out an arm and leg.

Is this http://www.palmerproducts.co.uk/
because they say it gives about 7in of hight to stock screen for about $120

and some kind of tank bag to block the wind from under the screen.

or I would get
an aftermarket screen
http://www.ceebaileys.com/buell/ulyssesws2.html
or
http://www.parabellum.com/

and lowers
like these

http://www.metricthunder.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv c?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MEP5810&Category_Code=M M
you will also need the Honda vtx mounting brackets.

This is the XT larger windscreen with the palmer brackets, it can still go up one notch.

I have the tall OEM shield and the Palmer Brackets, and with 5'9" and 30" inseam, low seat, one inch handlebar risers and at the second to highest setting on the brackets I'm riding in an really nice, smooth, undisturbed air pocket, with enough slow airflow for hot days. Just came back from a 1900 mile trip without the usual shoulder/arm cramping that I had with the fly screen . . Absolutely loving this.

Matt...search Ettenuly's windscreen. Only quiet one there is. Every stab at wind blocking creates another effect unless you do the mega screen like Ettenuly.

Thanks Hunn, and glad you solved the 'wind' problem. I thought I had but after a long trip, in high winds, I realized I haven't solved it. I've moved my Laminar Lip to the highest position on my Buell 'tall' and am hoping that does it.

I just got a Parabellum 26" and it's great. It takes the wind off my chest with no buffeting on my head. I highly recommend it, very sturdy and excellent protection without buffeting.

Hey Bzrider - I don't mean to get off topic here, but are those the Hella HID projectors, liek the ones you often see in BMW GS's? If so, how do you like them?

I've seen a few broken Cee Baileys, that said I haven't seen any broken Cal Sci's.

I'd go with the big Cal Sci.

I'm pretty sure my Parabellum isn't going to break or fall off. It's pretty sturdy and has extra braces to the crossbar. My pics are too big to upload.

I didn't like the cee bailey I tried out. The mounting points seem like a weak link and it made for a very noisy ride. I only used it for a few days and upon taken it off it looks to be stressed around the holes. I only snugged it up with some rubber washers.

Any one else with a CEE Bailey's have one break or crack? Seems like a really windy day combined with high speed would not be good for the sail and how it is mounted.

No windscreen has been the best for me.

Now, what should I do with the Cee Bailey's...

Hey Dmmblaze, I think you should ship the Cee-Bailey to me for further stress testing and possible modification.

After having seen them on a couple of bikes I am sold on the Palmer brackets. I am 6-1 and I am OK with the tall windshield but my wife's SS has nothing, so I am getting her the Palmers and a Uly low screen.

This is the B.A.W.

I now have four winters on this 3/16" thick polycarbonate one I built. It does it's winter duty very well. It is excellent at blocking wind and cold, and is a great place to hide while riding in rain and sleet. I end up with it on about four and a half months each year. In spring, summer, and fall here in East Tennessee it is just too good at blocking air flow. Makes me too warm.

I ride the rest of the year, quite happily I might add, with the stock small one. I have ridden with a buddies Buell Tall windshield, it made my entire head shake so bad that I could not ride more than a mile or so.

He now has the Maddstat unit and he is much happier. I have not ridden with it yet though. I can tell you it is a well built unit from having painted his flyscreen part. I have only seen the Palmer brackets, and they appear to be very well made also.

I have the 28" Parabellum. It works pretty good, but I have to make, or buy some lowers to stop the air coming around the frame, blowing up to make turbulence. You can`t beat the mounting system, but it is big, and not too pretty. I`m 5'11" and look over it when I ride. Keeps my jacket and face shield pretty much bug free. It is built well.
