Not many boards use Discus anymore, but I have seen a few. If it was a one click operation to convert to something newer like vBulliten, we would of done it already. Our biggest hurdle has been the archive, we have literally millions of threads and posts over the last 12 years or so, and the hard part would be importing them into the new system. | ||

I may be the oddball here but I like the way it is set up. This is the first forum I got interested in. When I started using other forums my wife thought I was messed up because I found other ones to be hard to navigate. | ||

I'm the same now, I find many other forums difficult to use. I can do fine on vBulliten based ones, but many of the others like phpbb, ezboard, Invision, and UBB, I feel they are bloated and often lacking. VB has some nice features like a more configurable search, including searching within a thread, so I hope that one day we will switch to that. Badweb loads great on every device I tried, thanks in part due to its basic feature set, as its not overloaded with AJAX and CSS and all the other bling like many websites use these days. | ||

RCGroups.com is one of the best (most functional) out there. As far as bulky look, that is all in the configuration and up to the admins to decide how bulky they want it. | ||

Badweb loads great on every device I tried... One of the reasons BadWeB is the way it is. One of our main concerns were people having to use analog modems (dial up internet), we wanted everyone that wanted to use BadWeB, to be able to with minimal effort. The only issue we're having now days is the search function. I have a feeling it's because of the many years of archived data it has to go through, sometimes timing out before it finds anything. It would be great to see this amazing forum using vBulletin It could happen. Actually it's been done, we experimented with it a couple years ago. Thing is, if we went that way, it wouldn't have all the bloat, with signatures, avatars, and the like. It'd look almost like it does now. | ||

I liked the avatars too. It made reading the posts a little faster, because you could recognize the poster faster. It took a thumbnail of the picture in your profile and placed it under your user name. But someone had to use one that wasn't family friendly, and refused to change it, and argued about it obsessively, so there they went. We had signatures too, they were just space wasters, got in the way, and just made for more clutter. I'm glad those are gone. Animated signatures on every post was more than just distracting.  at this thread. Yup, I've always wondered why we weren't using vBulletein either. Discus takes some getting used to. BUT this is the greatest Buell forum around, with the most information and the most helpful posters. The Google function at the top works extremley well, what I use to search every time. | ||

Speaking of board software.... Froggy, how hard would it be to implement software that resizes pictures as they are uploaded? I understand the need to not host everyone's large photos....but this would solve that problem. Lol, I don't have any problem uploading photos, but it seems that this is the most common issue that arrizes. Plus I think it would really help the site to have a cohesive look if all the uploaded pics were the same size. | ||

vBulletin seems to be the easiest to use and feature packed. Its like visiting 1995 (15 years) again when visiting this style of forum. Though i havent seen any anonymous posting ability with vBulletin. | ||

vBulletin seems to be the easiest to use and feature packed This software has all the bells and whistles as well, we just choose to not turn them on. I got an e-mail from a user yesterday thanking us for not bloating up the board. He's out on a ship, and the internet they use is about as fast as dial up, or slower. This is one of the few sites that load up quickly with their limited bandwidth. | ||

vBulletin lets users disable avatars and signatures if they don't want to see them. Also vB offers a mobile mode that works fantastic on portable devices and computers with slow connections. | ||

Wow I've only been into, or on, the net for about 7 years. I've always thought BWB was much better to navigate than the other boards. Now I find out it is an older system, must be my age and hard headed ways! |
