Did anyone actually upload a sound clip for the FMF APEX FULL Racing Exhaust???? I have been searching on the interwebs for a while now and havnt really found anything. The price on this system went down a bit and im considering buying it now that the price has dropped. I rather have a full system then just a slip on...i mean i just cant justify buying an exhaust if all it does is make it sound different. lol
Just so you know, not all full systems make huge amounts of power. There are several slip-on pipes that produce 15+ hp over the stock pipe, in addition to sounding pretty good. I know of one owner of a full FMF in particular that only made 131 hp, although it only had 60 miles on it at the time. That was with a full tune. There are at least 4 slip-on systems that I can think of off the top of my head that have made more. Even the pipe's I've made do reasonably well, but they're not the prettiest ones on the block. I kinda like doing stuff old school style, so thats what they look like. If you want to spend less $$ and get similar performance, there are a lot of options out there.
This one's not an FMF full, but it does do the job, and unless their price has dropped below $1200, this one is less than 1/2 that cost and will get the same numbers (131 hp or so) without a tune. Tuning will most likely result in an additional increase, just like what everyone else has gotten.
thanks again adams. I only hear great things about your exhaust work and for a while i was dead set on gettin a RT-3. The only thing was, i heard a lot of trash talk about the HMF slip on and how people where losing low end blah blah. i figured that i would go with a sure shot and get a full race exhaust. But if what your saying is true, then maybe I will go with one of your RT's after all? I am still mulling it all over. If i do get the RT-3....will it look as shiny as the pic =D
Axl_rose -- I can try to get it close to that, but it would take a while for me to get it there. I have just basic polishing equipment, not the pro stuff. I'm doing one this week that will get the can polished, I'll see what it turns out like and post pics of it. As for losing power, you really need to look at a bike that has a before/after dyno run with learning time on the ecm if it's a stock one. Then compare that same bike with a full tune after and see what it comes up with. If it loses power, there's probably a reason for it. You've seen the dyno runs on mine, it gains across the board, at least 4-5 hp even on the bottom. I'll be working on tuning mine soon, so we'll see what happens. I only know old school carb tuning, I've never messed with EFI before. It should prove interesting anyway.
David, get some mileage on that one, break it in good and run it again, I think you'll end up getting more out of it. You going to be at the Homecoming? I'd love to hear that in person if I could. I'm planning on going, I just don't know what day I'll get there for sure.
There is another guy on the other forum that bought the same exhaust and plans on doing baseline dyno's, and tuning just like me. I'm very curious to see what he gets. In the mean time I'm going ride it every chance I get.
