Owning something outright does not make you safe from issues. Buddy of mine is smart, but because of a "small" disability can't find a job he can do, owned his car, had to sell to make his rent. And I don't think anyone can fault you for being able to be a cash only person, but the way you expressed it (at least in my eyes) came off as high and mighty. I grew up poor as well, food stamps, well-fare, I remember as a child in the store with my mother having to decide what food to put back because we didn't have the money. I don't see how this is important to this thread though. Again, you can do it, good for you. The problem I have was the percived attack on someone who already had enough to deal with and the percieved "attitude". I'm sure we would all get along fine in person. Type tends to loss things in translation. |

YEA' LETS ALL SUE AT LEAST SOMEBODY HELL WE GOT TO FEED THOOSE BLOOD SUCKING LAWYERS SOMEHOW.The lawyers really are only ones that win in a lawsuit,do your class action BS if you want,it will keep the greedy lawyers happy and well paid until they suck H-D and you dry of all your money and maybe just maybe you might,I doubt it,you might get some money, but, also remember H-D's pockets are much deeper than most riders... |

I'm not trying to come off as high and mighty, or as an a$$ or anything. Yes, HD pockets are much deeper than any of ours, but when it comes down to it. It's just trying to right a wrong. No I didn't go crying to a lawyer, I was just expressing my frustration with a friend when a lawyer approached me about situation and gave me her card. Am I wrong for calling her? No, I don't believe so. If I can get back part of what HD starting giving as Dealer incentives/rebates I think a lot of us would be less smitten with the situation. |

So I will sue Ford because I was forced to buy a truck mid-year and wasn't able to take advantage of the huge end of year rebates. Sorry but a lawsuit wouldn't hold up. Pretty sad it's even mentioned... |

Pittsburgh_guy, Rather than take a single lawyer's advice on a topic, you should research whether or not buyers of Pontiacs and Saturns sued GM after closing those brands because they suddenly owed more on their car than it was worth. I'm not saying they didn't sue or commenting on their right to do so, I just think it is a very similar situation that will tell you if what you are thinking has already been tried. |

I will clarify my first statement...Yes motorcycles are luxury items. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that putting little or nothing down on a motorcycle loan is plain stupid--it means you CAN'T afford it. JEBlanc says he made $90K--why then is his loan at $12,000? Either he is lying about the income or made a REALLY bad financial decision. Well sorry, I don't have much sympathy for someone who makes a very poor decision, then comes here to ask someone to bail him out. It's insulting the OP would ask anyone to assume a $12,000 loan on this bike. As far as financing a motorcycle, I don't believe in it--if you haven't already figured it out. My philospohy is if you can't buy a toy outright, then you probably shouldn't own that toy. That being said, prudent financing is possible if you can put a significant down payment on the bike resulting in a reasonable payment for a reasonable term. Of course a low interest rate is a must as well. (Message edited by fresnobuell on April 12, 2010) |

I wasn't asking anybody to bail me out. I was asking if someone wanted to buy a motorcycle, that's it. I wasn't asking for your f@cking sympathy. The sticker had a price tag of 11k I put 1500 down because of other than savings I had in the bank, that's what I had in disposable income and with tax title an license I owe 12k. I just traded my truck I'm for a 2009 dodge caliber 19k so if dodge started selling them tomorrow for 8k, I'm at fault?. Let's say I did pay cash before the sale and I jst happened to want to sell it afterwards and It only sells for half of what I put down. That's not right, you just lost 6k. It doesn't matter how you bought( unless you bought during sale) you got screwed. I bought my bike in 09 and due to working overseas , I rarely got to ride, so the bike was babied and has low mileage. Why's my reward? Im in the hole |

Newsflash: YOu would be way in the hole no matter if the firesale happened or not. YOu would just be less in the the hole by a few grand. Am I happy about the value of these bikes? Not at all. Am I going to let it piss me off and eat at me? Not at all. Maybe because I have no plans to sell my R, I am less affected by the current value of the bike. HOwever, I choose to ride the snot out of it and enjoy it as much as possible. Like someone posted--life is short! Why's my reward? Im in the hole Exactly. THAT'S the advantage of owning the bike. You can lose your job and NOT be forced to sell a bike you are so upside down in.... |

You guys are going to have to agree to disagree, you're unlikely to find a common ground, Fresno is intractractable. Oddly enough if everyone started on paying cash for things the economy would collapse every bit as quickly as it would through over borrowing. Debt is OK, bad debt is not. Personally I saw the Buell on offer, didn't have the cash but did have a very understanding wife with a credit card - the rest is history. I've been fortunate that I have only ever been unemployed once (for 6 months) in 25 years of working so I have no problems borrowing money every now and then. Jleblanc26 I am really glad to hear you've found another job, well done mate. |

no sir, im not lying. a may have made a mistake for not putting as much down at the time. the money i was savings was for such emergencies, and like i said before that money was keeping my credit good while paying my bills until i found suitable work. when my savings started going down i even had to cash out my 401k to stay in the good. for the last freaking time, i didnt come on here for your financial advice, so leave me the f@ck alone. thanks jules and like i stated before i found better work and will continue to pay for my " financed bike " and put money aside (not to pay off bike) but in case of an emergency like i did before, and if i would've used my savings to out right buy it, i would be in a bigger bind than i was in, why? because my bike with little wear was valued at half of what i bought it and i would've lost the money i put in. and had no savings. so i think i made a decent decision. i got screwed on the resale of which i needed at the time. plain and simple. |

you if you lose your job fresno, your saying you might not have to sell something to keep something else, say your house. and then when you try sell your paid off toy, you only get half of what you plunked down. Thats right? |

the fact i have to explain myself in such detail to defend myself when i did nothing wrong, makes you even more of a dousche bag.. Maybe you got fired because you can't read well because I wrote your were lying OR you made a bad financial decision. You admitted you made a bad move by not putting much down, so why don't you just edit your post and remove the personal info. I feel bad for anyone who loses a job (God knows I have enough out of work friends) but coming in here asking someone to assume a $12,000 loan for a used R is a little obscene. I just chose to call a spade a spade....Sorry. |

i would be in a bigger bind than i was in, why? CAUSE YOU WERE NOT IN A FINANCIAL POSITION TO PURCHASE THE BIKE--FINANCED OR BOUGHT WITH CASH. SIMPLE. |

you if you lose your job fresno, your saying you might not have to sell something to keep something else, say your house. and then when you try sell your paid off toy, you only get half of what you plunked down. Thats right? Toy=low resale value. I bought the toy expected to take a hit at resale. It's part of the deal. The saying "Pay to play" comes to mind. Maybe I was raised differently but my parents taught me to live within my means. This means paying off my credit cards monthly, owning a mortgage that doesn't suck up 75% of my monthly take home pay, not having a child until I can fully and completly support him/her, not getting EVERY cable channel available, etc. I think you get the idea. To answer your question if I lost my job, I would not have to sell my toys. Certainly lifestyle changes would be in order, but I have chosen via financial SELF-CONTROL to put myself in a position where losing my job is not the end of my world as I know it. Honestly, this country will never again have the standard of living it once had because Americans in general are not financially prudent. It's all about the now and the image. And worst of all, bailing these people out is falling on the shoulders of the few people who have made the right decisions and gone without...it's bullshit in the purest sense. That's what you get when you have democracy and one side outnumbers the other side. |

I LOST MY JOB!!. i was within every right and means to have my bike. i was living comfortably while paying on my bike. for your information i didnt lose my job through no fault of my own. my company made poor buisness decisions and one of them was starting the over seas project which had them hiring local paid people because what i made in a day he made in three weeks not too mention the plane tickets for an 12 man rotation. i have the letter of recommendation, the letter of appreciation stating it was buisness reasons for the layoff, which wasnt just myself but 10 other operators and slew of office personnel. would you like my resume as well, while you seem to be evaluating me. i dont need to take it down theres nothing on there that can hurt me. i saved money like i was supposed and used it like i was supposed to. im not in trouble because i financed a bike and couldnt pay for it, i ran out of emergency money before i could find something else to put it back in. yes, i asked. thats it. you didnt want it, shut the f@uck up and keep your mouth shut. a forum doesnt give you the right to be an a$$hole just because your behind a keyboard. get a life. |

I'm sure you are a couple of fine gents. I'm willing to bet much of this would never happen if you were in the same room. Please go out back and work it out between yourselves. Don't come back in the house until you have either worked it out or need to go to the hospital for stitches. |

And some will certainly not understand the manner in which it's being made. Yes you're both being misunderstood but at least you're being polite about it. |
