I have a pretty good idea on how to mount my GPS to my bike, but i am still looking for a way to get power to it. I searched past threads for anything to do with GPS mounting and i found one stating to use the cigarette lighter from a ULY (P/N Y0198.1AK SOCKET, CIGARETTE LIGHTER W/HARNESS) and hook into the accessory port under the front of the bike. Does anyone have one of these that they would be willing to part with or know of where i can still get one of these?

I think it is still available at the dealer. $15 or so.
Another option is a generic accessory power outlet from an auto supply store. Just a plastic outlet with wires. I have one and I'm going to try mounting it under the seat somewhere. Don't remember what it cost but definitely under $10. Only trouble this causes is that you have to run the wire from under the seat to the handlebar, not sure how I'm gonna do that. I'll take pictures!

As for the GPS mount, I used RAM part # RAM-B-149ZAU since it was shorter than the standard one and didn't get in the way as much.

i was kinda wondering how i would do it on the firebolt also if that's what your gonna mount it too. i use the handlebar ram mount on the other bikes and that works pretty good but don't see using it on the firebolt. of course if anyone has an idea, i'm sure froggy does.

pics when you get it mounted please.

The RAM handlebar mount does fit on the R models, just is a tight fit. I ended up removing my clutch master cylinder, installing the mount, and then reinstalling the MC. I was working with what I had laying around, I plan on ordering more mounts like the ones that go on the MC lids.

Ecan95242 thats a slick setup. What did you use for the stem mount?

BTW for anyone might want a fork leg mount for an XB, Techmounts makes one even though it may not be listed.

A search for GPS / hardwire charger will bring up the permanant wire solution. I have one for each bike and a mount for each bike, I hust have to move the GPS itself from bike to bike.
Mounts are a dime a dozen on Ebay, from ram mounts to chead but effective pieces that mount in the center

I just finished mine and here is the setup. Universal handlebar mount:

RAM-B-149ZAU - RAM RAIL MOUNT W/ A SIZE ARMS

then I got adapters for my phone and gps:

RAM-HOL-AP6U - UNPKD RAM HOLDER FOR APPLE IPHONE 3G
RAM-HOL-GA26U - UNPKD RAM HOLDER GARMIN NUVI 750 760 770

Then I ran the (thin! should be thin!) wire under the airbox cover back to the battery. Wired directly to the battery with a 3 amp inline fuse on the positive lead.

Also just ordered the Y0198.1AK socket for the connector under the speedo. I might use that instead of running all the way back to the battery.
I should note that after the pictures were taken I wrapped the wires up and tucked them away. It gets hot down there!

I know the GPS looks high up but it doesn't get in my way or block my view of anything when I position it right. Also, it was in the same position on my other STT when it was wrecked. Came off without a scratch even though the bike went down on the instrument / headlight assembly.

Does anyone know what size the handle bar clamp bolts are? I'd like to use this mount for my gps.

RAM-BC8 ($10.00)

RAM ball to replace handlebar M8 clamp bolt

http://cyclegadgets.com/Products/RAM/ram.asp?prod= RAM-NUV8

Will it work?

I have a few of the "RAM-BAR" mounted on all my bikes, I don't know if that M8 one would work.

The powerlet stuff looks great but it's expensive. I picked up a Buell accessory pigtail. I drilled a hole on the right side of the headlight mounting bracket and put it there. It comes with a nice rubber cover.

$15 for pigtail, $7 for hole saw. Personal satisfaction for doing it myself.....priceless!

Now I just need to decide how best to mount it so it's centered and hidden behind the windscreen.

On my XB12R I used a piece of aluminum to mount the Garmin Quest II motorcycle mount to. The bolt goes into the mirror post spot. It works fine.

FYI, the bolt for handlebar clamp is 5/16 x 18 x 1. I ordered the mount but will have to get a different bolt at the local hardware store since it's not an M8. It's an SAE bolt but should work. 5/16 = 7.9 mm....close enough!

I picked my bolt up at my local lawn tractor dealer. Although Fastenal probably would have had it tooa, which is also local.

I pulled the power off the servo deleted connector, +12 V when key is on.
