Does anyone have experience with both the standard Drummer and the SS Drummer? I'm curious what the sound & volume difference may be between the two.
I know sound is a difficult thing to describe, but if some comparative description an be made between the two, it might help me with some future decision making.
I, like many others, am not that interested in more HP and I know there are little gains to be had with any of the after market pipes anyway. What I am interested in is a pipe that's not going to rust away on me in less than a year. My second OEM muffler in a year and a half is already bursting out in rust. I know I will have to give up on the stock pipe eventually, so do I go for a Drummer re-fab, or a Drummer stainless? And what would I experience in terms of performance and sound with either.
I've actually heard a standard Drummer before. I like the deep sound, though I do find it a bit loud.

Any comments?

Cheers.

The SS drummer will be your best bet to prevent rust, because the standard drummer is just a stock pipe chopped up. I currently have a SS on my 12SS and on the wifes 9SL and love them. They are a little bit louder (to me any how) and have a deeper tone than the standard drummer. The craftsmanship on the SS is amazing. I have done quiet a few 500 mile days with the SS drummer. After a while the reverb in the helmet can get annoying but I just wear ear plugs and that fixes it all. I am actually thinking about putting the SS drummer on my uly and switching the race can to the 12SS.

Hopefully this helped out.

Oh yeah the SS has a more solid sounding thump to it than the standard drummer but once again this is just one mans opinion.

Thanks Jimmy. That helps quite a bit.

Cheers!

I cant't remember what a standard Drummer sounds like but I can tell you this:

I had a Buell race pipe that grated on my ears pretty bad. I would use ear plugs on long rides.

The SS Drummer is quite a bit louder than the race pipe but it is such a deep tone that it doesn't bother the ears at all.

I only use ear plugs on really long rides (mostly for wind whistle).

I know you said you're not interested in more horse power but with the SS you get it plus an amazing torque curve.

My cg with the SS and open air box kit from American Sport Bike ran silky smooth from as low as 1800 rpm all the way up to red line.

With the race and stock setups I had to be no lower than 2600 rpms or it was herky jerky.

ON edit: also ran a race ecm (cg is an 05 model).
No mapping was done.
