Hi There, I'm trying to upgrade my Uly wheel to the 2010 model. All went well until I tried to install the axle. No matter what I do, I cannot get the threads started into the left side of the swing arm. Any tips? Thanks . . . Chris | ||

Can you feel inside the left swing arm hole(where the threads are) for the end of the axle? Is it lined up and touching the threads? From the right side it can seem to be all the way there and feel like it should engage, but is still short of the threads, usually remedied by lifting on the wheel a bit and wiggling it while pushing the axle home. Make sure the tire is not touching the ground. Also make sure the belt is seated all the way into the pulley. Don't forget some anti-sieze. It will lube as well as fight corrosion. I hope whom ever installed the three bearing set up got them all seated properly. | ||

I'd try pushing the axle through the bearings in the wheel with the wheel off the bike first to check Etennuly's last point. One thing I noticed with my bike is the OD of the sprocket end of the 2010 axle seems to be very slightly larger than the earlier ones. There was a previously unknown burr inside the right side of my swing arm that actually slightly scratched the coating on the axle as I tightened mine the last few turns. I'd get something like a half round file and go around the ID of the right side of the swing arm lightly, especially on the inner edge of the hole, to make sure the axle's not getting hung up on something there. Put everything back together and shove the axle through the swingarm and wheel as far as you can. If the threads still won't engage, try tapping the right end of the axle with a rubber mallet, deadblow hammer, or something similar and try threading again. It might just need some "persuasion" to get started. | ||

I just installed mine last weekend and i noticed the axle did not slide all the way through to engage the threads. All it took was a smack with my hand to slide it the rest of the way. Don't forget there is a seal on the outside of the bearings now so be sure to lube the axle and threads to keep from damaging the seal and allow the axle to slide through. | ||

is the purpose of the new 10' wheel to get the 3 bearing setup or is there more to the changes for the 10' than the previous years wheels? I stopped ridding a Uly for one year and feel like I am a noob all over again. | ||

Can you just install the axle in the swingarm without the wheel, just to see if it fits properly? If that fits OK, try lubing the axle as others have mentioned and tap on the end of the axle with a heavy rubber mallet to get the threads to engage. Please let us know how this turns out. | ||

Thanks for the info. I did run the axle through the wheel to make sure it went through ok (it did). Then ran the axle through the swingarm with no wheel to make sure it would thread ok. The new axle threaded nicely. I gave up last night, but I think my problem is that I didn't push the axle through far enough, even though it appeared to be far enough into the swingarm. I'll give it another shot tonight and will use the rubber mallet approach if I run into the same problem. Thanks for the comments, I'll post a follow-up after I complete the install tonight. Got it done last night, with some help from the wife. 2010 wheel, new rubber, new rotor, pulley and belt. Should be good for a few more miles. Thanks . . . Chris | ||
