So I rubbed my right Journey Case on the boat yesterday in my garage. Of course this took about 2" of the platinum colored paint off the painted portion of the case.

Anyone found an exact color match for the factory color? Or anyone have any suggestions on what paint to use?

I have seen a few members paint those sections to match their bike (red, blue) But I don't mind the factory color.

Please don't start flaming me for not appreciating the character that scuffs and scratches add to the bike. I'm one that likes to keep things looking new as long as possible.

Thanks for your help!

Mark

It's the same magnesium tone that's on the Uly wheels and tail section rails (and cam cover/primary cover on 06/07 bikes). I don't know if you can still get touchup from HD....but that would be a good start.

Then again, I've got 2 strikes against me in your eyes - I painted mine to match my orange Uly, and I just leave the scratches ; ) Although, I am considering some of the black texture finish Krylon Fusion plastic paint, to cut down on scratching...and the black should help the bags look less bulky.

You can buy new inserts for the bags and sell your damaged one to someone who wouldn't notice the difference.

You could always go yo one of the shops that does vinyl wraps and get those. Or get a Buell sticker!

Mark, I know how you feel. I,too, like to keep my 08 XT looking like new.

When I first got this bike, I was showing my brothers how I get on and off it without scratching the saddlebags. As I was doing that, I accidentally drug my size 13 EEEE shoe across the top of the bag and scuffed it slightly. They were not impressed. I was able to rub most of the scuff out but I know it will happen again in the future. When it does, I guess I will find paint that matches as close as possible and paint both bag inserts so they at least match each other.

Right now I can only suggest that you sell the boat so this doesn't happen again.

PS If you are ever planning to ride in SE MN, please contact me and maybe I can show you around!

I cringe to say this aloud but unless the scrapes from shoes or boots or boats goes through to the plastic base of the paint, Mr. Clean magic sponges take a lot of crap off of a lot of stuff (aluminum Triumph engine cases included) with a minimal amt of effort. Wet, rub, lather, rinse, repeat. Go slow and light at first..., wait, this isn't sounding as much like instructions for cleaning as it is something that I'd get my mouth washed out for saying.

Anyway, I have noticed that the Mr. Clean brand ones are worth the little bump in price over a store brand.

The sponges also remove oxidation and surface discoloration from plastic parts.

An automotive clay bar is also good for removing an assortment of scuffs and minor scrapes that don't damage the plastic.

(Test in an inconspicuous place first, YMMV, yada yada, yawn...)

My wifes BMW tipped over and scratched my bag insert. I contacted bag manufacturer and they said that the inserts on the Buell are a special color, like you said a slight goldish tint, and could not be ordered through them. Nor could I order the exact paint match from them. On the 06 it is not the same color as the frame. Also the BMW is now gone.

There is an autobody paint supplier near here that can mix any color of automotive paint and put it in an aerosol can. It would take a little time to look through their books and match a color chip but I'm sure it could be done.
Biffdotorg, maybe their is a paint supplier or auto parts house near you that could do the same? Just a thought. Thanks.
