Damn, Rhun. You may have just put the nail in the coffin- all this talk has made me want an EBR ECM. My '09 runs "nicer" but less efficiently than my '04, and if I'm gonna have less mileage, I should have more grins! |

05 - 12r - I get 50-52 mpg in the city and 57 highway doing 8O MPH. I have found that running gas with 10% ethanol lowers my mileage by 4-5 mpg. Also I switch to iridium plugs at 5K and went up ~4mpg around town. |

hi guys, my 03' xb9s has been gettin about 30 mpg all around. is there anything i can do to push that up at all. it has 11,--- miles on it. i did change over to iridium plugs so hopefully that helps. and it does have the race kit on it. it just seems a little low for what it says. my fuel light has been comin on at about 90 miles and i have been filling up when my reserve hits about 15 miles. so i have been gettin roughly 105 miles to a fill up. |

09 XB12SS 600 miles on the bike. 130 miles on 3.5 gallons of 93 octane. That's 37.5mpg I'm a very conservative rider. I was thinking it would be better than this. I hope it gets better! |

Xb9lover: I think you must have something else going on if your mileage is that bad. I have a 2003 XB9R with 25K+ miles and it consistently gets 50+mpg. The only time it dips into the 40's is if I'm really romping on it, like at the track. My 2009 XB12XT, on the other hand, has never gotten 50mpg. It's got about 1200 miles now and is averaging about 44-47mpg. I think that's a factor of larger displacement, heavier bike, less aerodynamic (particularly with the bags on), etc. I'm hoping that as it breaks in more, it'll improve. |

My '06 Ss gets a pretty consistent 51 mpg. I think overall the bikes with DDFI 3 rarely achieve their spec mpg, based one what I've read around here for the past several years. No idea why. You'd think if there was a loss in fuel economy with the new system, you'd at least be getting more power out of it, but I think the power specs have remained about the same for the entire XB series from year to year. ~SM |

I concur my 09 xb12r got no better than 42mpg. I was in between 38 to 42 pretty consistent after 5,000 miles. I am thinking about picking up a lightning in the next few months a pre 2008. I had an 03 that was a Colorado bike here in California loved that bike. Got over 50mpg riding pretty hard I would have to redline it everytime to get down below 40. I dont think it ever could get below 45mpg even if I tried. (Message edited by freezerburn840 on April 05, 2010) |
