Sit on it, they are stubborn till the seat "molds" to your bike.

You are amazingly fast froggy- thanks. I tried that and no joy. And I am "Heavy enough" for "forcing" the issue. Any suggestion for next step?

I'd turn both seats upside down and carefully compare the placement of the front "tab" and rear latch thingy. You may need to tweak the 08 seat parts to match the 06 parts.

I tried that- it is kind of hard to get a good reference as the contour and angles are different and it's hard to find a good reference point. I wonder if anybody actually did this and has some first hand knowledge?

Lube the "hooks" of the seat where it slides to the frame with Amor All. Helps a lot

Thanks Hrleywern- I tried that. It seems that the hook on the seat is a hair short- it hits the lock but does not go deep or low enough to actually lock. When I press down on the rear of the seat it stops against something and I hear the lock being pressed but it seams the back of the seat will not go far enough to allow the lock to function. The rear hook on the seat appears to have no way for adjustment.

I know new seat's are a pain in the neck. I know because my stock 07 seat was replaced under warranty. My dealer was unable to install the seat correct. I got a 06 seat and it was hard to install. If you fidel long enough it will slide in. Use a lot of pressure in the back.

I removed the front tange from the seat and the rear would not lock.It almost does- but I can't make it lock. Any suggestions? As the rear "U" is molded in I don't see any other adjustment option.Almost like the seat mold is slightly different then the 06.I thought they were interchangeable.

I can confirm that the '09 seat will fit an '06 and vice versa so I assume the '08 is the same. I have an '06 X and an'09 XT and if I'm going to do any distance on the XT I prefer the higher '06 seat.
It is definitely a little harder to get the latch to click when fitting the '09 seat to the '06 but not excessive.
I just went out to the shed and compared the two and the major molding difference at the rear of my two seats is the piece on the '09 base that appears to line up with the battery (I think) . On mine this has a wear mark on the seat so make sure that area is clear. The other spot where a friend of mine has trouble is the two rear 'hooks' that are formed in the seat base. On his the seat has been forced on with one of these hooks above the lug on the frame and it has now distorted the seat base. Make sure these are lined up.
The only other thing I can suggest is to check the cast frame rails on your bike - my '06 had a very rough finish in a few places that I dressed off with a file as it was wearing gouges in the seat base.
Is everything lined up after the comfort kit work? Just looking at this it would be possible to put washers under the bracket holding the seat latch to raise it by a hair but in theory that shouldn't be required.
I can take some photos of mine for reference if that would of use to you.

My 06 seat was a pain to install on my 06X, oddly enough it fit easily on my 10XT. I'm thinking the location of the tabs on the bike vary a little and need some tweaking. That or buy a 2010. "honey I had to do it or my seat wouldn't fit"

Rays thanks for your detailed response. The 06 seat lines up and locks with no problem. Could you please post those pictures? I would like to be able to try the 08 seat as I am having issues with my 06 seat- It should have been great for me except it isn't.

When my 08 XT was brand new, the seat was almost impossible to latch. I had to press very firmly on the rear, directly above the U-shaped piece on the seat, to make it latch.
To fix this, I simply placed two thick, 1/4" I.D. flat washers under the bracket that the latch is mounted to on the bike, just as Rays mentioned above. This raised the latch up slightly and it works perfectly now, very easy to latch.
I'm guessing there are some manufacturing tolerance differences that are causing your problems.
