I washed the bike the other day with the factory hard bags on the bike and then pulled them off to make sure they were all clean. I opened the side cases up to find a fair amount of water in them. I did NOT use high pressure while washing them so it wasn’t from that. The top case was fine. I was wondering if others had the same problem and if you did have the water problem, did you find why its leaking and fix it? |

Yes the Journey bags leak. They are not waterproof. |

I have never had water in mine from riding in the rain, but have a little when washing them. |

Ditto. Mine stay dry when riding, but sitting and getting wet (I don't wash...) I get water accumulating in the latch cutouts, which dumps into the bag when I open them. |

When I purchased my 09 Uly new both bags leaked pretty bad. Told the dealer and they said Buell would probably replace the seals. About a week later they called to inform me that a new set of bags were on the way. Now only one bag leaks a little riding in the rain. I can live with that. The funny part was when the new bags arrived the service department insisted I make an appointment to have the new bags installed. HE SAID IT WOULD TAKE AN HOUR AND A HALF! When I pulled my bike in the shop the young tech had apparently never seen a Buell. I removed my old bags and installed the new ones in about 4 minutes. He was impressed. |

My side units are starting to leak when washed or when sitting still in rain. They don't seem to leak when riding in the rain. I have caught stuff in the seal areas and dented the lips of the seal retaining track, so I cannot say it is so much the bags fault. They did not leak the first two years. Now at four years. |

Mine leaked since new. Seals were never seated in the channels, which I discovered when I got tired of them falling out when I opened the cases. Pressure with my fingers around the seals snapped them in, which reduced the leaks but didn't stop them. I believe the problem to be the way the crappy seal folds in on itself at the bottom corners. When riding in rain on dirty roads a good amount of silt and grit collects in the cases in those areas. Just my observation and opinion. Journeys suck. If I had the money right now I'd go Outdoorsman mounts and HB 40L Juniors. |

My '09 XT's bags don't seem to leak while riding, but when parked or getting the infrequent bath the left side gets drenched. Six hours in a heavy rain let in about a half pint each last fall, but the same conditions the next day produced no water ? Go figure. Seals are intact and I clean them often to keep debris out. Just a lousy seal design. Planning on using a thin strip of closed cell foam (home depot stuff) on the opposing side to cure this, just haven't gotten around to it. |

My bag only "leaks" when you beat the hell out of the shifter. |

I was very concerned that mine would leak (on my 10 XT), but I have ridden in the rain several times without them leaking. I have also washed the bike a couple of times without them leaking, although I didn't really concentrate a hard spray on the bags during the wash or anything like that. |

I have noticed the same issue when washing, riding in heavy rain or on dirt roads they get water and dirt in them. |

Both of my bags leak. I'm actually pretty disappointed as it was the hard bags that sold me on the XT. I guess I'll be packing everything in dry bags. |

I've gone through the heaviest of downpours and never had any leakage issues in either bag after 20,ooo miles. They should seal tightly. HB Journey 42's. Check your seals. |
