My 09 1125R, purchased oct 2009, needs to go in soon for the first service. I've received the letter for the wiring harness fix so I might as well let hd do the oil change while its there. I'll switch to full syn sometime in the future. 1. Flashing. How do I determine what flash my bike has ? I don't have any issues but it would be nice to know what flash my bike is on and what the current flash is. 2. Clutch cover weeping. Mine is ok for now, I do have a c-hair of fluid under the cover..maybe even a single drop. But should it be completely dry there ? I would assume so. How do I tell if I have the older or newer clutch cover ? Thanks Bill,Chlt NC 03XB9S,09XB1125R |

Update on the clutch cover. After riding to work this morning I popped the cover and looked. Theres no fluid there, just a vapor on the inside of the cover and some boooger-like crud on the bottom of the case opening. That vapor must be what I saw before. Should I wipe that off later and observer it to see if it returns ? Or I should stop thinking about it kuz if it does leak for real I'll be pretty obvious. |

The dealer can tell you what flash you have. I suppose you can buy some extra equipment to do that. As I recall (somebody help me out) With the 08s, the flash was an issue because the first bikes ran very lean, so you had really hot pipes, and they got fairly low mileage as they were set up to burn up a track vice putter around the neighborhood, and meet EPA pollution requirements. That is a bit of an oversimplification, but Buell rapidly instituted several flashes that lowered the engine temps and improved mileage, while not getting in trouble with the EPA. There was great wailing and gnashing of teeth in the media and among some riders at first. However, it was fixed fairly quickly. I think it was much ado about nothing....but it happened. I am happy with my dealership. My bike runs like a champ. However, you have to remember that this is a performance machine and not an old Buick, so you have to ride them and keep the RPMs up. As far as clutch covers go, there are a brazillion threads about that here. Here is what I think I know: There was an original cover, replaced by a "B" cover, and then a "C" cover. The cover is cute, but not the issue. The leak was in the hydraulic actuator for the clutch underneath the cover, that shows as a leak that has to be overhauled. Mine leaked like a big dog. In fact one day I went out and there was zero resistance on the clutch handle at all....means no fluid. We had a lot of folks on the web at that time that have never owned anything mechanical, and they went a little crazy. But the transition from dolls to motorcycles is a steep climb. I just added some fluid and had the overhaul and clutch cover replaced at my next service. Not a big deal. Didn't cost me anything either. |

You can use ECMspy to confirm what flash you have, but the dealer has to be the one that updates it. It is good to verify that they indeed updated you. Clutch cover - I would wipe it, and if it drips again bring it in for service. Personally I would do the 620 service yourself, as its literally an oil + filter change, about $40 in materials plus your time. |

Yes, I saw the note to check the anti freeze. I had them check at my 600 mile check up, and yep, low...I don't think do anything for set up at the dealer other than put on the price tags.. |
