Anyone getting the same jaw drops I'm getting from civilians? I've had several people roll down their windows and ask about my wheels, front brake, exaust etc...Makes me glad I'm riding a Buell now and not makin' cookies with a Jap job. | ||

I have heard about Buell riders having people come up to them, and start talking about the bike, but I thought they were exagerating. I recently had this happen to me as I was leaving a pet store. He asked me about the lack of frame under the engine, then asked where the gas was. He recognized the Buell name but was not aware of the "old" bikes. He was a touring type of guy, but told me that my S2 had to be one of the most beautiful bikes he had ever seen. His wife said that she had never heard of the bike, and the husband replied that it was the new breed of Harley. | ||

I'm not an XB owner, but browsing this list I saw the subject. I have the same thing with my Blast, people frequently ask lots of questions at gas stations, sitting in traffic, etc. John Q. Public may not know what a Buell *is* but they tend to know that it's not one of the Jap bikes, so they get a lot of attention. | ||

Yeah, I ride a 03 XB9SL and I have had people come up to me more than once asking about the bike. I always feel like they are going to go a get one the next day by the time I'm done talking to them. And as far as people looking at me when I pass them....always the dropped jaw. This is a good half the reason why I got the bike in the 1st place...it's unique and everyone knows that.  edited by buellny on April 11, 2004 | ||

I took my 12R to the apprenticeship class I teach one nite and wound up with about half the school standing around the bike at break. Never had to explain a thing about the bike as one or two guys were pointing everything out by the time I got there. Right now I think I've got the only XB in town so a lot of people sure are reading up on them here. | ||

True story from last week: I was waiting for my wife in front of a local restraunt when an extremely cute Domino's pizza delivery girl pulls into the parking lot, rolls down her window and yells "That's an awesome bike!" and then drives away. I had a girl wink at me and say "Nice Bike". she then sauntered away waving a VERY nice posterior at me. This bike rocks. I always get people walking up to me and asking about it. I once had a guy in a big SUV pull up next to me at a gas station (you could tell he wasn't too happy) so his GF could ask about it. Of course I flirted with her a little just to rub it in... I don't know HOW many times I've heard from other sport bike riders that they were really wanting an XB12R when they were buying but couldn't afford one  . | ||

I"ve had a few people at lights roll down their windows and make comments and ask about my 12R. The most surprising one was during the primary election a few weeks ago as I was leaving the school where I had voted, a woman and a 10 or 12 year old girl came in. I was carrying my helmet and had my jacket on and I was holding the door open as they came in and the little girl looked up at me and asked if that was my bike outside. I nodded and she said,'that's beautiful', in a sorta moonstruck way... Really surprised me that a young girl would pay that much attention to a m/c... But Hey, she's got good taste...  Kevin | ||

Major comments from hot chicks. I'm in atlanta and the guys with the pimped out caprice classic's almost snap there neck trying to get a peak at the bike. About 10 people have came up to me and said...what the heck is that thing. Had one guy with his hot girlfriend follow me into a restraunt. You definately catch some looks on it, especially when you roll up beside somebody and she's just loping away at idle. | ||

This is half the reason I ride one! I love the looks it gets when I park it next to a Yamazukisaki sport bike with its polished wheels and super shiny decals and they snikker and talk smack.These are the guys I call "Parking Lot Pimps". Then we ride and 3 turns into the ride I pass them and although the bike will do 160 MPH unless the road is straight they can't hardly ride the thing. I ride with about 9 other bikes and only 1 is a twin Suzuki TL1000, I am the only Buell, and I have to say it DOES get respect on the street. I fell bad for the kid that buys a 600 or 750cc sportbike and feels that he needs to do 150 MPH to keep up. IN reality these guys are actually not learning to ride only learning WOT then heavy brakes then WOT again. Not really learning any technique. I feel sorry for them. I think that is why so many get hurt. | ||

It still amazes me. I had some "young" guys at a stop light in a truck reving the engine at me. I reved back. When the light turned green they took off for all they were worth. I slowly left the light. At the next light I pulled up to the passenger side of the same truck. The window rolled down and the driver yelled "do a wheelie, do one." The passenger told him to shut up, then looked at me and said that it, (my 96 S2), was a hell of a good looking bike. I love this thing! | ||

A couple of weeks ago the wife and I go for a spin together. A few miles outside of town my wife stops to say her hands are getting very cold, so we stop at the local Co-op (farming supplies and such) to find some hand warmers. As we're shopping this young guy comes in and stands at the counter waiting. The lady at the counter asks if he needs help and he says no thanks. As we finish paying and go outside the guy follows us out and starts asking questions. The fellow only looked at my wifes '02 sportster twice. Once when I told him my engine was that engine only tuned much better and when she started it. It is louder than my XB (no Drummer,  ). Hello, is the factory listening, he only looked at the sportster twice. All of his questions were about the XB!!! Oh, well, I think I'm preaching to the choir anyway. | ||

LOL...my Blast actually gets more comments than the XB - probably because it's more noticeably 'different' from other sportbikes than the Firebolt is. Especially now with the new intake and exhaust on it. It's hilarious sitting at a light and watching everyone break their necks to look for the Harley and there's me on my teensy little Blast, windshield and all (he's my BadWeatherBike!). Not that the XB doesn't turn heads - I was at Johnson Controls once for a business meeting and came out to find two 40-somethings standing next to my bike arguing over where the hell the fuel was. They were so intent on it that they didn't hear me walk up. After one insisted that it was under the seat (WTF?) I piped up and we chatted for about twenty minutes. | ||

Last Saturday I dropped my son off for his guitar lesson then dragged the trailer to the HD shop to pick up my XB9S after scheduled service. As I rolled to stop in front of the place with the XB trailered, I never saw so many noses pressed up to the front glass looking out at my XB. My son said they went gaga over the thing as I pulled up... the noses were pressed to the glass looking out even as I pulled out of the lot. I love my XB! | ||

I think the XB's are good PR for Harley. It is definitely a unique bike and from what I have seen people like seeing a somewhat "naked" sport bike. Especially with a big Harley V-Twin. The only downside I have heard is from the Harley dealers. Most would not carry the Buell line if Harley didn't push them. They don't sell that many and the customers for Buells are "unique" from their Harley mainline customer. I enjoyed riding the XB on the racetrack. There is definitely some fun to be had on these. I wish the AMA would bring in a class (for Privateers) that was XB based and a HP limit with a claiming rule. This would make for some incredibly close racing and get the Harley name (and more importantly fans) back into Pro Racing. Marcus | ||

The dealer I got my bike from was very willing to try and help, they simply knew nothing about Buells. It took five (5) of them to determine that my 96 S2 must have a gas capacity of 3.7 gallons. They were also very paranoid about my test riding the bike. 15 minutes into the test ride the dealer called my cell asking if I would be returning soon. Nice people though, better then the reputation I had heard about them. They still know nothing about buells to this day. | ||

I get folks asking about my bike all the time. At every track day I have been to, I have had people hint that they would love to take it for a spin around the track. This past weekend I was at the track and the 3 guys (racing IL4's) all came over and oogled over my bike. All sat on it and one guy even asked me directly if he could take it for a spin around the track. As much as that delighted me, I had to deny the request. I told him it was setup for my weight and that they have to be tuned to your weight for them to really show their stuff. He shrugged but they always gave me the thumbs up as I came out of the "The Bitch" at Hallet Motorsports Circuit in Oklahoma. Needless to say, the word is spreading. | ||

I have even had positive feedback from the uniformed civilians amongst us..had never seen a Buell before. |
