My dealer(the owner) told me this morning that he checked and found that Harley/Buell is still continuing to update the Comfort Kit re-flash occasionally. Is that correct? Do any of you know whether the original Comfort Kit re-flash is the same, or different, from the current one? He's a good guy and a Buell enthusiast and I'm not sure if he spoke to someone at the factory, looked at the updates, etc. He sounded pretty sure though. I should have asked but we kept talking and I forgot. Any info.? |

I actually just got mine reflashed the other day. There is no "stock download" and a "comfort kit download". There is actually only one download available right now. I just got this latest greatest download and it still operates the fan like the "comfort kit" download did. I was having a little bit of trouble before getting the bike to start and idle when it was cold outside, and it would even foul the plugs. So far with this latest download, it starts right up and idles fine. I don't know if that was the purpose of the download or not but it seems to be running better now. |

I installed the kit awhile back, never got it flashed because the dealer is a ways away and the bike has been running great and the fan rarely comes on now. ??? |

Right you are Phild1203. Ths. I visited with my dealer today and he told me that he had called Harley to get the official word on Uly 'flash' updates and that there is just one. I have the Comfort kit and will probably get the re-flash but I'm waiting for warmer weather to see how the bike reacts without it. In the meantime we'll hopefully get feedback from those with the re-flash. |

i just bought a comfort kit from my usesless harly dealer... they are of the "finally we can get rid of all this Buell none-sense" variety. But I am worried about the reflash. I had to walk the dealler through the Buell website to get the part numbers for the comfort kit! do you know of any decent Buell shops in the Montreal area? would you trust the harley monkey heads to be able to reflash my uly? thx. |

Ask them to put a charger on the bike while reflashing, if your battery is weak and dies during the reflash, I don't think they can restore it. |

Consider NOT reflashing. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't get the comfort flash. The fan runs all the time as long as engine is at operating temp and you're going faster than 15 mph. Personally, I'd rather hear the fan run when I stop and have the peace of mind that my fan isn't going to die prematurely just because it runs hours on end while cruising. |

How often does the fan run without the re-flash? I wear ear plugs so I don't hear the fan until I turn the bike off. I assumed that it runs a lot while riding, anytime the head temps get above a set (?) temperature, or some such thing. Anyone? Ths. |

Now that my 2008 is broken in with over 25,000 miles, it never runs the fan if I'm moving. Stuck in traffic in the summer = fan is on. Anything from back roads to highway in mid 90s still doesn't turn on the fan. I wouldn't want that comfort kit. I don't live in Florida though. |

Thanks Natexlh1000. In reading your profile it appears that you haven't had belt, wheel bearing, or brake rotor problems in your first 25,000 miles. Is that so? If so, very cool. What's the secret? Ths. Does anyone know what triggers fan operation in the pre-comfort kit flash? Is the fan operation 'with' the comfort kit flash simply triggered if mph is greater than 15 as I read on here someplace? If the fan is not operating does it interfere with air coming in the right scoop from exiting the rear of the bike? Ths. |

NO!!!!! Sorry haven't updated my problems. Things that went bad: rear bearings filled with water belt popped at 16,000 miles clutch bearing failed due to water in primary rear rocker leaked kickstand bolt sheared (one left, didn't drop it) muffler valve was rattling they replaced the muffler cable and muffler. I love the thing but am somewhat disappointed in the reliability so far. Still not worse than my X1 was the first year. |

I know this is a beaten down topic but it seems like no one really knows the answer and that goes for HD also,(which I'm not surprised)there are only a couple of guys there that seem to know something about Buells, but absolutely no depth...Hey does anyone have facts that the fan runs at cruising speed?..I do know that the fan is running from about 40 on down to 15 in which it shuts off..But I can't here good enough w/helmet and all to know if it's running at 70? Someone said the fan has to run to allow the air to flow properly? Doesn't make sense to me,I would think that the air flow at say 40 and above would create those fan blades to spin anyhow allowing some air to pass thru..There was someone on this site that had their fan wired so you would know when it was running..I thought about putting it on the local HD Dyno to run it at 70 mph to look and actually see if the fan blades are turning just because I want to know!..But that's $80 bucks(I think they ought to split it w/me so they would know too,but I don't think they really care)..I just think it would not be good to have the fan operate most of the time on a trip unnecessarily, which will lead to premature fan failure...Thanks,Tim |
