Bought a left over '07 XB12S back in January. Didn't ride it much with all the snow we've had on the east coast until recently when it all melted. Anyway, the XB is stock and runs rough off idle and at steady throttle. It almost sounds like it will die while at idle at times. It does this if the motor is cold or good and hot. Steady throttle at any speed it coughs every so often and surges. I've read that running at steady throttle for 5+ minutes will make the computer learn and get things corrected but this doesn't seem to work. I've got the ECMSPY on the way with the cable but not sure what I need to do when I get the stuff. I ordered a Drummer and K&N this week. Should I get it running good with the stock stuff and wait to put the Drummer and K&N on until after break-in is completed? The XB is really smooth and pulls hard with the throttle opened full. It just sucks at part throttle and rolling on lightly for some reason. Thanks for the help! | ||

Try a TPS reset. It tells you exactly how in the owners manual. Cannot remember right off if the 07s are like the 09s when doing it. But that should help hopefully. Jimmy | ||

Yep do a TPS reset, if you still have issues, it might be fouled plugs. The bike has been sitting for 2.5-3 years, probably started up a couple dozen times without fully warming up, and it fouled them. | ||

I'll do the TPS reset per the service manual. I'll get a set of plugs. What works the best on the XB's? (iridium, platinum, etc.) The XB was new and only had 1 mile on it but it could have been started a few times during that one mile before I left the dealership with it. | ||

TPS reset will require ECM Spy or dealer to perform on '07. | ||

More than likely fouled plugs, TPS reset seldom needed unless someone changed the ECM or worked on throttle body. | ||

i was reading on xb forum.com that somebody took their xb in and had it dyno'ed with stock plugs and the iridium's, and according to the charts run with the stock plugs had more HP.... idk how much truth there is to that?...but i just replaced my plugs with stock ones and its running fine. | ||

how many miles on the bike now? they get better with a few miles on the clock, and playing with it now might not be the best thing. change the plugs and do a tps reset, get some miles on it. thats all is needed (Message edited by Mtch on March 23, 2010) | ||

change the spark plugs use th Vrod plugs they are cheap, Don't start and shuy off the bike quickly or blip the throttle when it's cold they DO NOT LIKE IT | ||

I've got 850 miles on the XBS. I was going to wait until the first service interval to install the drummer and K&N filter. I'll upload one of the maps recommended by American Sport Bike for this combination at that time. Hopefully, the ECMSPY won't be that hard to figure out. Tips on this appreciated! |
