I love the Uly because I'm a big, tall, guy tipping the scales around 270 lbs. I just installed the Buell top and side cases (got them 50% off) and I would like to take some long rides with the wife this summer.

I took a ride with the wife yesterday (110 lbs) and I dialed the suspension up as far as it would go in the rear, but it was still pretty bouncy at times. I can imagine how bad it would be if the cases were full as well.

Can anybody recommend a fix? Replace the rear shock? Has anyone done this before?

I am interested in this as well. Wife and I use our Uly XT as our traveling bike. 95% of it's use is 2-up with full luggage. We are at around 385lbs with the luggage full.

Would like a stronger spring for the rear.

I'd suggest giving Al Lighton a call at American Sport Bike and see what he says. Otherwise, you can try a suspension shop like Race Tech and see if they can provide a stouter spring. You can improve things by cranking up the compression damping above the factory recommended setting. Go up a quarter turn extra, try that, and go up more if necessary. If you're going to run your Uly loaded over the recommended weight, I'd also strongly consider installing a 2010 rear wheel kit with it's bigger 3 bearing setup.

You also have compression and rebound settings on the shock, in addition to the preload screw knob. It sounds like you need an adjustment there to control bouncing. This knob controls the spring preload.

A hole in the bottom left side of the rear shock is for rebound damping, and one on the right side behind the rear master cylinder is for compression damping. These control the dampening or bounce of the shock.
