Did a search, could only find one pertinent result, so I'm asking just to confirm my thoughts. The other thread said around 20-25 miles when the low fuel light comes on, .8 gal x 30 mpg is 24 miles until I have to push. Is this correct as I bought it to ride and not push |

30 miles was the furthest I have gone on with the light on, but being my light comes on at well over 200 miles, its not valid for most. |

I think the light comes on well before there is only .8 of a gallon in the tank. If I stop right when the light comes on, I usually put about 4.3 gallons in. |

You could always test it...drive around with a soda bottle filled with gas and figure out where it dies. Fill up and find a gas station. Take this advice at your own risk as far as gas in plastic containers goes... |

You could always test it...drive around with a soda bottle filled with gas and figure out where it dies. Fill up and find a gas station. I wouldn't do that, it isn't good for the fuel pump. It can cut the life down, but I have gotten about 25 miles after the light. It really depends on how you ride. I somehow find myself running out a few times. I have gotten as low as 18 miles, after a day of hotrodding. |

Yes, my personal best was 230 miles before the light came on, 54mpg. My XB will do about 250 before the light. Once I drove that 36 miles with the light on and still had at least 10 or 15 miles before I was walking. My stupid Blast doesn't have a light, but it dies after its 2 gallon tank is empty and I have to switch it to reserve around 160 miles. |

I'm really interested in your hypermiling practices Froggy. Could you perhaps make a small list of practices you use on your 1125? I mean, for road-tripping I do the usual: - Keep the RPMs as low as possible, though my '09 CR, even with the latest flash, HATES anything below 3,000 RPM. Below that and you can feel her bucking and kicking slightly which can't be good for the drivetrain, so I keep my revs 3,000 rpm and above. - I tend to limit my long distance cruise speed at 60-65 MPH - Time stoplights so I'm not actually stopping - Top gear on downhills - I don't draft b/c I don't believe I'm experienced enough to add it to my skillset, and probably never will. And my personal best goin by the Avg. MPG computer on the IC and confirmed by my GPS and gas pump is 34 MPG. (Message edited by jeepinbueller on March 17, 2010) |

ive gotten about 20 miles after the light. after that i'm likely to be pushing. last month, at 15.7 mi, i knew i was cutting it close, but was pressing on and all of a sudden it started bucking. pulled in the clutch and it cut out. a half mile never seemed so long. |

With all due respect, what is the fun of hyper-miling on a 1125? It's like owning a race horse but only letting it walk around the track. |

My IC says my average MPG is 37, up 2mpg from the older flash. However my gas light comes on right around 150 miles every time. |

Hypermiling is its own sport. Seriously, there are competitions held not far from me to see who can milk whatever they have the most. |

I too am around the 20 mile mark when the "Idiot" light comes on. I stretched my luck one day and got 24 miles before the next gas station came into view...she was thirsty, but I didn't have to push it. Now on long trips I I take a 1 liter aluminum water container for the "you gotta be kidding me" moment that is on the horizon.

I've put in 4.7 gallons so far, the light came on 20 miles earlier, so it could have gone a little farther, but not a lot. I think I was only at 170 miles at that point though. I average around 39 mpg. |

I see 50-55 mpg all the time and occasionally it will spike up over 60 mpg if I cruise at 60 mph. I have problems riding that speed though. My normal cruise speed is 70-75 or maybe a bit more. |

I can verify 44mpg. I have pulled that once on a stretch through the everglades at 50mph. I have gotten several 42mpg as well. I have never had my fuel light on yet. After 180 miles I just cant help but hit a gas station. Everybody I ride with needs fuel before me. Thats a nice change from my XB where I am always the first to need fuel. |

I'm scared to post this. Seems n00b. But I've filled up 4 times(started with 3gallons from dealer on delivery), and I have 270 miles today. No mods on bike. 09 CR. But I do get on it often (i can't help myself!) Hmmm... |

During break in the fuel economy will be terrible. My 08 R was getting only low 30's MPG, now its getting mid 40's.

There is a lot of things you can do to improve fuel economy, but the biggest one is driving technique. There is more to it than obeying the highway speed limits.

You guys are all better riders than me. I can't go the speed limit. Man. I'm gonna get nailed. Reminds me of an old z06 vette I drove around. Felt like 45, and it was 80mph. When I look at my speedo. I instantly let off the throttle, and downshift. I just try to keep the rpm's at 4500 approx. But that's only after I realize it. I'm screwed. I can see the lights, and hear the sirens now. sigh |

I found about 5mpg savings just by tucking-in on the hiway running @ 4500 rpm. 75 mph |

instant mpg is too ... 'instant' (?) for me to utilize it for anything other than telling me my throttle position. i could learn more from listening to my XB's exhaust tone echoing out of the D&D as i change body positions while cruising down the interstate. but it is neat to watch the instant MPG's dip waaaaaay down low. |
