I have a few electrical modifications/additions I want to do and recall reading somewhere (where? I can't recall) that there isn't a good grounding point in the nacelle behind the flyscreen. I see lots of unpainted metal with screw/bolt attachment points so I think there could be but I want to be sure. I'm trying to not have to run a ground wire back to the chassis grounds under the seat. I'm willing to do so, I just don't want to have to if it isn't necessary. |

The bolts on the steering neck that hold the flyscreen brackets. |

There's a ground screw on the T if I'm not mistaken. About dead center under the head lights. |

I thought all of those points would be good but wanted to make sure before I start tapping stuff down to find that anything ahead of the headset was intermittent as a ground. Thank you!!!!! |

I have a 12v Taidan garage door opener mounted behind my wind screen. I'm using the screw the holds the top and bottom nacelle together with a star washer as my ground, no problems.

Gamdh, there is an old cliche about great minds but I hesitate to piss off someone with a great mind by affiliating myself with them. I found one of those units the other day and stole it from Manny, Moe and Jack for $9 (upon closer inspection, mine may be a lesser version of that one - only 3 connectors- but still very similar). Two_buells, that was one of the screws I was contemplating. {This place is sooo much better than the other room in my house that has American Idol blaring. Thanks for not changing the locks and for the info.} |

It the Centech AP-2 Fusebox Kit from Eastern Beaver. The fusebox has both switched/unswitched power. It includes the fuse box and the wiring harness. IIRC it was in the $85 range. I don't think he uses this fusebox anymore, but has something he had custom made for him... but same thing. I currently use this for - Fatty's voltage monitor - Gerbings heated liner/gloves - Clearwater LED lights(used to have HID's) - Garmin 276C Its been under the flyscreen now for 2 years... no issues. IIRC Centech started out making products for Street rods. (Message edited by gamdh on March 17, 2010) (Message edited by gamdh on March 17, 2010) |

I ran a couple heavy gauge wires from this ground point (which is by far the best ground point in the area) Up to both # 8 bolts in this picture (left and right) Then I used the horn mounting point (removed the oem horn) and ran a bolt through it specifically for under-the-flyscreen-grounds. I have all of these grounded to that point: 1x 55 watt HID 2x 35 watt HID 1x Stebel horn 1x horn relay 2x lighted switches 1x Fatty LED Voltage mod |

When you ground to the moving flyscreen your current path is through the steering head bearings. Not the best for those polished bearings if any arcing occurs, Mike's bonding wires are one way to prevent that. There's no need to run back to the battery as the stock frame ground is robust enough to pass several hundred (or maybe thousand) amps! This is what I did: http://s678.photobucket.com/albums/vv141/ronmold/U ly%20flyscreen%20grounds/?albumview=slideshow (Message edited by ronmold on March 18, 2010) (Message edited by ronmold on March 18, 2010) |

this very same ground point on my 08 was a point of a few problems for me. Turns out some little elf did not pull the insulation back far enough on one of those ring terminals and than crimped it anyway. Of course this in turn caused an intermmitted ground for several circuits including the turn signals which would not work when the handle bars were turned to the left. I would suspect that this has happened on more than just one Xbike (Message edited by blk_uly on March 18, 2010) |
