Hey All, I am interested in raising the rear end of my M2. I have performed this mod on other bikes in the past and have been happy with the results. I hit my feet alot on my M2 when I'm having fun  My bike has a 16.5 inch shock. Would I be able to bolt up an S1 front shock mount and run the 14.5 inch shock? | ||

That would be interesting but you know that will raise the bike more than a few inches. Your looking at 4 or 5 inches, plus you will need too go to chain conversion or find a way to keep the belt from hitting the frame... Dirt Bike Buell??? | ||

Hey, I have a 99 M2. The shock is 16.5 in while mounted, 17 in while off the bike. I just wanted to raise it a bit to make it quicker turning. I commute with the bike on rural backroads and like to play a little | ||

maybe drop the forks in the tripples 5 mm and get some peg relocators. | ||

i think your shock is too long. i just measured my spare.....14 1/2" | ||

Shock length depends on a few things, but mostly the front mount. Early shocks (many were recalled), measured 16.5. The new shock with the stronger rear eye also came with an updated (stronger) front mount. Running a late shock with an early front mount might not even be possible, if it will reach it would probably top out your suspension completely. However, with an early and late bracket in hand a machine shop could probably fab a bracket that will raise your ride height an inch or so. If you weren't on a budget you could get a Penske with adjustable ride height. | ||

Oh yeah. there were foot-peg relocators similar to those Banke made being sold on ebay for quite a while, I think by that "billet 2 race" guy. They'll bring your feet up about an inch and are not uncomfortable. I'll try and find a pic of my Banke set on my 'puter to post up. | ||

 I'm hoping this come up with enough detail for you to see, the bottom fastener goes through the stock peg location. Up 1 1/2" back 3/4". With these my pegs touched on the track until I hung off a bit more. They'll touch in the canyons since I don't hang off there, it's a good indicator of if I'm pushing it too much for the streets. | ||

well i scored a set of footpeg relocators this morning off ebay. Hadnt seen them in a while. Hopefully this helps with dragging the pegs. | ||

Littlebuggles, Thanks! Those look awesome. I will see if I can find a set. I am buying a used 16.5 inch shock for cheap, an aftermarket shock is WAAY out of my current budget. I am also picking up a 14.5 inch shock.. I know a machinist and a guy who is good with a plasma.. Maybe ill fab up a new front mount with the short shock and see how it works. Truth, To raise your rear an inch, you need to relocate the front mounting hole 1/2" forward. Do not go any further then this. More details are in the email that I will send you. | ||

i wanted to do the same on my 99 M2,raise the rear end,what i thought of doing was get a west tek lowering kit(which i have if anyone wants it) and swapping out my 16.5 shock for the 14.5 one,in the end i installed a AST rear shock and thats put the rear up a shade,the belt rubs a bit in a couple of places,watch for that, on another thread on here one guy has converted his front shock mount to an adjustable ride height one by welding extra bits on and using a large threaded bolt as the adjuster,he wanted to lower his X1 ?????? but the same principle could be used to raise the rear end , | ||

why not find out FOR SURE if your shock/shock mount are the proper pairing before doing anything else? have you checked for recall compliance..... do you KNOW EXACTLY what you have vs what you should have??? keep it simple until you figure that out | ||

Erik, I bought my Penske just for this reason, and reading your other thread, makes it sound like it's really only meant to have ride height adjustment for lowering eh? Even at it's shortest, it doesn't raise it eh? | ||

yes, any dealer can check it out for you, even over the phone, with just your vin#. if you have problems getting the info, let me know. i gotta guy............... also you can eyeball and measure a comparable m2 to help you decide. or take pictures of shock and mount with a ruler or tape measure for reference, and post 'em up here. see what others come up with when they check out their bikes with your pix. . | ||

You are correct Brinnutz. However, a Penske with the preload set for the proper sag should cure about 90% of the problem. The stock shock just sucks. | ||

Dumb question, but are you riding with the balls of your feet on the pegs or letting them hang down as if you were riding a "standard" bike. Before I started putting the balls of my feet on the pegs I was dragging my toes all the time. | ||

When I'm not shifting gears my toes on my pegs. Otherwise I risk crushing my toes in the ground. | ||

I'm not totally sure! I have never owned a cruiser bike, just "crotch rockets". I like to ride the twisty roads and as soon as I start to get to the point of "holy crap!" my toes are dragging | ||

thanks, it works a treat on the x1 easy to adjust until you get you correct ride height. Cut to a template of the origional mount out of 10mm steel plate, 16mm thread. Make sure the welds are done by a skilled welder and are on the over-kill side. Will take a picture later. | ||
