Do you really think that the insurance companies would sit still and let such a law pass? Have you got any more of those drugs?

Crusty,

Sadly, you're probably correct. However, I think it could be done in a way that they would not argue much against. They would get a service fee for every account they have. They wouldn't have to pay any liability claims, so they don't need to bring in all that money. Hell, we could even leave it up to the ins companies to keep the money invested. The only real differences would be that EVERYONE who drives a vehicle would be paying for insurance. Cars don't go without gas in them. Alternatively fueled cars would have to be a special case I guess. I think it could work.

Do you remember when Billary was going to come up with a Government Health Insurance, so that nobody would be denied medical care, and how much ridicule and scorn was heaped on the idea? Who do you think was behind it all?
Who has the majority of skyscrapers in this country? In Boston, the largest buildings are the Prudential, the Hancock (as in John Hancock Insurance) and the Travelers. Do you really think they'll sit back and let the government regulate how much money they can rake in?
Just remember, the Good Hands of Allstate are holding a Piece of the Rock; and they're patiently waiting to drop it on your head. Then they'll take your wallet.

What is the % of Buell XB's sold & then totaled, VS the % of HD's sold & then totaled?

Seems like we are reading about 1-2 a week just on this board that are getting wiped out. You think the insurance companies arent aware of that?

When Harley riders wreck they die from head trauma. Buell guys wreck in helmets and end up in the hospital.

A funeral is cheaper than a trip to the emergency room, and insurance isn't paying for the burial. I think the insurance companies are aware of that.

Hootowl is a fair and thoughtful man. The people in charge are not. If you had a gajillion dollars a day coming in, would you change it?

I feel for ya Bukin, It has to be tough when a kid can ride a new R6 and can't afford a used XB.
The thing with dealers is goofy to me. You're supposed to have 2 million before you can start one, yet if you have that kind of money what is the motivation to risk it for a minimal return? Buell is a nich'. I believe it is intended to be so, which is OK with me as long as HD is aware that, that is what they're doing and don't come off with some "the accountants said" Bull. but the bottom line is what dealers are concerned about. Sell the T shirts and the money keeps coming. After all, it's a business. Sell a bunch of Sportsters and a bunch of chrome knobbits, and get satisfaction that 3% of the time you're going to make somebody really happy.

Bub - havnt got the job, YET. The general assumtion I get is that everyon there loves the Buell line, just hate selling them. Not cause of the products, just cause of the same issues that many are bringing up here. HD does not back them. HD does not want to fix the problems. It is just like if you go to a Dodge dealer and buy a Cummins deasel. IF there is a problem with the engine, you take it to the Cummins dealer, cause the Dodge dealer isnt going to spend the money to cert. his techs for 3 to 4 trucks they sell a year. JUST AN EXAMPLE

I find the product great, and the only other direction I would like to see is a Buell superbike. I see no reason why the V-Rod powerplant would not be applicable? Or a version of it.

On a side not, I went to insure my S3 and it costs the same a year as a Sportster for the same year. I am sure it is diff with the XB's though.

not trying to be an asshole here but....we don't seem to have any trouble with getting things fixed. I know more than once I had to give it a little extra effort sometimes but other than that no problems.

I don't buy it...look what they told ya...we love'em, just hate selling them....That is about the goofiest thing I ever heard.

funny maybe if they would certify their techs they wouldn't have such issues. It don't cost that much..and once again if you hang the sign up to do business...well then do business and do it right.

BTW the insurance thing is age based...how old are ya if your over 30 there is no problem.

but my friend greg, finished law school and moved down here, he's 25 and has a 2000 m2, on a good day book vakue is $5k...he just got liabilty but he ask for a full quote....$5250 a year...welcome to hillbilly ol boy network hell.

I stand by my statements tho...if your gonna hang that sign....certify your techs...no excuse not to.

maybe thats the problem

Fubba, we have four Harley dealerships in my area, all owned by the same people but only one sells and services Buells. All but the Buell dealer ignore you when you go to them. Most people behind the counter are nice but just won't be bothered when you ask about Buell things. The difference at the Buell dealer is the main two people running the shop. They ARE Buell people. People are the main difference even at Harley/Buell. They can compensate for lack of factory support. I have to travel an extra 40 miles to see them, but well worth it. Glad to see you taking a stand on things. You and people like my Buell dealer will make the difference in Buell suceeding in the future. Bob T.

Bubba, I was talking to Dave @ Shelton's about the insurance deal. He's 23 and his insurance increased ten-fold! He went from $800 a year to $8000 a year. He's had to park his, he just can't afford it.

This won't stand for long I think. It's going to put enough of a hurt on the motorcycle business in NC that the dealer's association will start to scream. Around here with all of the young military, some of the shops depend heavily on healthy sport bike sales. My question is this: How did this piece of legislation get passed un-noticed?

Insurance!!Yikes!!!
I insured a Blast for me, no collision it was like 75 bucks, to add the Big Kid,it jumped to 175. Went looking at an X1, insurance was 2400 to 4500 with the Big Kid included. For me alone it would have been 750. There are risks involved with the younger drivers, Thank God for rev limiters, otherwise I'd be shopping for engine parts and not just tires.

Insurance legislation gets passed unnoticed because of the insurance company lobby and campagin contributions. Then they use their private police agencies to go out and enforce their legislation, effectivly reducing the risk for the insurance companies, and requiring all motorists to place a bet, all the while reaping the benifits of setting the odds in the big gamble called Insurance
It's easy!
My question is what interest does the government have requiring you to insure your vehicle? Why not mandated Homeowners insurance? or horse insurance, or boat insurance, or snowmobile insurance or medical insurance, Why do they force you to have insurance on anything?

Thanks for the rant

I've done the research,it is only buells.
and no It won't clear up soon. The hd lawyers and ama are on this but its already been a couple months and nothing.

Swammpy,
Don't even get me started on insurance. Insurance is the biggest scam the government has ever levied upon us. The government and insurance industry are in cahoots to steal as much money from as possible. And no one will ever convince me otherwise.

I'm 46 years old. No accidents and no moving violations for 20+ years. If I want to buy an R1, ZX-10, RR, GSX-R or anything above the magical 749cc I have to pay $1400-$1500 per year.

For that $1500 I have a $500 deductable and NO (yes NO) medical benefits. If anyone on the bike is hurt they better have some other insurance to cover hospital stuff. Criminal!

Luckily, State Farm will cover my bikes. I pay $450 per year for the Buell. State Farm gives me all the same stuff as a car policy except Personal Injury Protection (PIP). No medical.

They say that if there was PIP on the policies the cost would double. Well...they can all go to hell.

Half the state has no insurance. Can't afford it. This means I have to buy extra insurance to cover those who are under-insured or non-insured.

In Jersey we are forced to buy insurance for eveything you listed..except...medical.

Hmmm. Now that just smacks of Socialisim, doesn't it?

Here in kalifornia AAA full coverage runs 600$ a yr for my new 12R.
My 1996 XL1200S runs 400$ for the same.
I think they just see the XB as a different model Sportster here.
I'm a bit over the (25?)yr old break point tho.

Insurance costs vs. relocation costs.
Compare and decide.
