looking into getting an aftermarket header to finish up some mods over this spring....

the two maybe three things i want to get to go along with the rest ive done so far is an aftermarket header + can, a set of cams, and possibly an aftermarket ignition setup.

so far ive done the xb 12 pistons/jugs/heads in stage3 with the billet mount.

so far the top end has made the engine feel smoother, but i feel as if ive lost some torque down low but maybe picked up a few hp up top. not even close to the gains i was hoping for.

i know the cams will bring this motor alive, but i feel i should do the header/can as well, since my header is the stock 96 s1 header with a few dings in it from being laid over by the PO. and the can (V&H) is in sad shape.

so any reccomendations of a set of cams/header/can?

ive been thinking about just taking the bike to a fabricator (have one in mind) and having him make a set of custom pipes for it, but i would like to at least have some kind of specs to build off of.

Ricky, I've thought of the custom header idea a few times. I don't have anyone local in mind though. You could use the stock header as a template/base, and have the primary tubes extended around the front of the motor, and put a collector and reverse cone megaphone at the end, so it would be similar to a Force exhaust, but in stainless. Longer primaries will take the dip out of the lower end, while the megaphone will be sickly loud and make plenty of top end : D. BTW, I would get cams first probably though.

Before you invest too much here I would recommend that you have your bike dyno'd. It's a very small investment and it gives you an idea as to where you want to improve your bike.

If you have hole in the low / mid range, then "hot" cams will make the problem worse. Also a typical "stage 3" involves larger ports which "typically" reduces low to mid range power.

So spend a little money to see what you have so you know where to put the rest of your cash.

As for aftermarket heads, I think D&D or Buell Race Header is the way to go.

actually the guys around the corner from me have a dyno in their backyard... but the city wont let them run it anymore because of noise. they take it with them when the y go to the track, and ive been dieng to go. we all grew up together as kids so their gonna load my bike in the trailer and let me go with the group. which includes a dyno ruN!
