Admittedly, HD has innovations too including in recent years fuel injection and most recently a bike that attempts to capture the spirit of a model from 60 years ago. Harley FI isn't exactly an innovation so much as "You can't meet modern emissions requirements without it." They didn't exactly go rushing to implement it until they had to. Unless they're working some form of magic with their FI system that I'm not aware of, it's a fairly straightforward feedback O2 sensor based system.

Having ridden nearly everything there is to ride besides a Guzzi, my opinion is that the best bikes are Buells and Ducatis. Everything else is either heavy, unmanuverable, or underpowered in comparison. It's sad that half that equation is gone. (Message edited by Old_Mil on March 04, 2010) |

Syonyk, unfortunately my sarcasm didn't come through on that part. Nels |

Brain fart. Yes, all you Triumph riders do have a point, and they should be included in that list. |

Forerunner: Ah. Sadly, I'm sure some of the people I run into out here would argue that Harley /did/ innovate by putting fuel injection on their bikes - Real American Fuel Injection, while everyone else was using carbs. I mean, sure, if it was a high pressure direct injection setup on a big air cooled V-twin, that would be nifty, and probably would actually work well with those motors/help them meet emissions laws (how DO air cooled Harleys meet emissions requirements anyway?) - but I doubt we'll see that. Actually, I wonder if any of the literbikes are doing that. There probably aren't many real gains at WOT, though. |
