Sounds like Court is mad cause he paid full price.. But I've had at lest six Buells I've paid full price for so its nice to get a brake. but like the rest I couldn't resist the dangled carrot. I admit I wouldn't have bought it for 12k. I think Buell were to highly price for the economy anyway. Guess thats way they are no more. |

Many of them are. The fire sale brought in a whole new breed of cheap buyers who don't understand the brand and the history. Worst part is, these buyers don't care to learn it either. They just see it as another cheap bike to hold them over till the next Busa is released.

Many of them are. The fire sale brought in a whole new breed of cheap buyers who don't understand the brand and the history. This is a very true and very sad statement!!!! There is a lot more to these machines then specs. There is a lot of good old american sweat and pride in what got accomplished in 26 years by all the good people at Buell. Those who know about it are already excited for the future. |

Cheaper Buell sold out quickly..So they were to highly priced for the economy. I know it cost to much to build them to sell them for less.. That just the state of our economy. Buell sales increased 55% during the past 5 years. Harley-Davidson sales increased 9% over the past 5 years. Your facts regarding Buell were/are inaccurate. You observation of elasticity of demand is common knowledge. Common mistakes for a person guessing without data. Don't take it personally. |

So what, sales increased... Still not enough top keep the doors open. Harleys sales number still much higher than Buell. Thats why they let them go.. Its just math, not personal. So I would say that is very accurate.. |

harleys sales were much higher in dollars because of the volume of bikes that HD builds. If buell produced as many as harley and they had their own stand alone dealers like HD I would guess that Buell would have sold as many if not more units than HD (Message edited by lastonetherebuys on March 02, 2010) |

"Its just math, not personal." Concerning not you but rather some of the key H-D personnel, that is dead wrong. |

"Many of them are. The fire sale brought in a whole new breed of cheap buyers who don't understand the brand and the history. Worst part is, these buyers don't care to learn it either. They just see it as another cheap bike to hold them over till the next Busa is released." I would counter that many of the buyers new to the brand knew exactly the history of the brand, mainly being the red-headed stepchild to Harley. Some feel they have been severely hampered by H-D by their insistence that Buell use the Sportster-derived engine for all models. Regardless of what some may argue, Buell's record for reliability and refinement was one of the worst in the industry, and that also kept people away. The Rotax engines should have been a new lease on life for Buell, releasing the bikes to journalists without fuel injection being sorted was a huge mistake and tarnished the bike from the beginning. Even though this has since been rectified, with so many other bikes performing perfectly from new the marketplace would not tolerate these flaws from a brand they generally shied away from anyway. Had Buell had a great reputation for reliability or performance it could have been overlooked, reputations are hard to change and take time, many just assumed "another flawed Buell". It is sad that Buell was killed off right as it was on the cusp of changing its product line to something appealing to more people. Also sad is the apparent attempt to diminish the wisdom of buying a discounted Buell after 10/15. Alienating your peers in the Buell brotherood doesn't seem to make sense to me, unless of course it was all about feeling superior and not about the bikes to begin with... |

Buell did not go out of business. Buell was killed by its parent company. No one outside the HD inner circle knows why. The official story stinks of bull shit. |

>>>>Buell's record for reliability and refinement was one of the worst in the industry, and that also kept people away. Fairly common misconception that's always entertaining to watch folks back up with facts. What do you think was the MOST RELIABLE product to ever come out of Harley-Davidson Corporation in their history? Buell has had their issues but with no greater frequency than most the major manufacturers. For a complete summary you can dig into the NHTSA site and start searching various models. It always yields illuminating information and reminds us of how much of our thinking is shaped by media and mayhem. |

And those figures don't include the epic idiocy we are starting to learn about... Take for example the original XB9 bikes. Imagine, a bike that got rave reviews for everything except always got an "*" for not having enough power, at 110 RWHP and a turbo, for $1500 more. Still pulls 45 MPG for normal riding. Passed a rigorous durability test. Then torpedo it, because Harley decides they should develop a turbo charger from scratch. Porsche, Audi, BMW, Saab, and Mercedes all get their turbos from Garrett, and have several decades in the turbo car busines. But Harley can do better by building their own turbo. Then look at the marketing, clothing, and image. It was like a comedy about what not to do it was so epically bad. I'm sure that was the tip of the iceburg. Yet Buell was still growing... Buell succeeding like it did would be like breaking a long standing Bonneville salt flats land speed record... while riding in the rain... into a headwind... uphill both ways... |

Tbenson: Still waiting for the bike. No word from the Dealer, Corp. thinks its completed, whatever, this has taken enough time out of my life and HD's left hand has no idea what the right is up to, I'm fed up with the run around so I'm just gonna wait it out. Its raining cats and dogs here and I've got a nasty cold, so no riding for me CR or no CR. FYI 5 weeks and counting... (join me this sat 3/6/10 to celebrate the 6th week in the shop! (six weeks on this visit, 9 weeks if you count the previous two visits to correct the water pump, which never stopped leaking...) (Message edited by eece_ret on March 02, 2010) |

An increase of 55% in sales when you're making 10,000 bikes (or whatever minimal numbers they are) is not comparable to a 9% increase in sales when you're making 150,000 bikes (or whatever number that is). I find it interesting that the same people that chide new Buell riders for "not getting it" (and then calling us trailer trash) are the same ones who chide new Buell riders for being realistic on their expectation of the machine and offering an outsider's view of Buell's place in the market. So if I sell 10,000 widgets in a year and I have a 55% increase in sales over a 5 yr period, does that mean that I'm doing better than XYZ company that has a 9% increase over the same period that sells...what...150,000 units? That would be no. In addition, because they have an increase of 55% over 5 years doesn't equate to profitability. For the paranoid view that HD dumped Buell because of some perceived fear that Buell was going to make HD look bad on innovation and sales is rediculous. Someone said to me on this forum that Buell was innovative and forward moving yet HD had no major improvements in 50 years or some such nonsense. That sort of statement is just as lacking in intellectual honesty than any perceived negative comment that has been opined in this thread. This isn't about degrading Buell or the fans of. For the first time I'll probably watch the Daytona 200 because I'm interested in Buell and happy the bikes are still being raced. But for some of the people here insisting on calling people like me 'trailer trash' is more insulting than when I made the statement about being a fanboy...which is a comment I recinded immediately after saying it. Are there trolls out here? Most certainly. Its what happens when you have an open forum on a product. But to have a blanket statement from some people here that we who are new to the world of Buell (and starting to learn more about the product, company and man) is more short-sighted than some very few trolls I've seen out here. I'm glad I got my Buell. For the most part I've read a bunch of new Buell owners that are happy to get their Buell. I'm hoping that if I have questions about my bike that people out here are will and able to give me the advice I seek. But there are some realistic issues regarding this company that people like me have brought up (being new to this forum) like the economies of scale of who Buell was in the marketplace. Such as being insulted when guys like me have called Buell a niche bike....whatever. I just find it interesting that the minute someone says something derogatory about the Buell brand that they get branded as trash. Thats childish. |

"with so many other bikes performing perfectly from new" Credibility gone. "I just find it interesting that the minute someone says something derogatory about the Buell brand that they get branded as trash." This is a Buell enthusiasts forum. If not trash, then those posting derogatorily towards Buell are here under false pretenses intending other than having a good time talking fun moto stuff and helping other Buell enthusiasts. A thoughtful, respectful person simply doesn't enter a clubhouse and start badmouthing the home team. Those who do and have any integrity understand that they will absolutely be met in kind with fierce attack. Trolls don't, they react with righteous indignation. I've had it with them. It's long past time that they depart. They'll be helped to do so if they don't take leave on their own. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone in particular in the following rant, just communicating my view on the issue, one which is shared by the vast majority of Buell enthusiasts comprising our community here. I've pulled this from another thread gone down the toilet.
quote:Jetbuilder posted: I wish the Idiots who think they know more than EBR here would just go out and develop there own world class motorcycles/engines and race to a championship or just shut the F.....k up!!!!! I am sick of the retards on this site questioning every piece of data EBR provides us! Every time he is kind enough to provide us with info some prick decides to question its accuracy! Go away please, you are screwing it up for the rest of us who actually want to learn something.
I cannot agree more. My sense from other communications from other BadWeBrs is that the majority feel likewise. In that spirit, we'll be exercising more aggressive intervention to put an end to the miserableness. We will absolutely uphold and enforce our terms of use. If you aren't familiar with the terms of use to which we all agreed when signing up to use the forum here, then please click on the "Rules" link at the bottom of any page on the forum. I for one need to be able to enjoy participating here and looking after the place. I refuse to let others make this a miserable experience for me and the rest of the Buell enthusiasts here. The people that Jetbuilder describes who for some pathetic miserable reason seem to have made it their mission in life to belittle, berate, and naysay against anything that Erik Buell offers have made that near impossible. Those who for some queer reason feel the need to intervene on behalf of the naysayers just add to the miserableness. I get indignant foul-mouthed phone calls and emails. One of our custodian's mothers has been searched out and emailed by one unbelievably arrogant, indignant, naysayer. I have ZERO use for such people. They are a blight on my life. That needs to end. Now! I don't care a wit for any reasoning on their behalf. Those who think it is all fine and dandy can go pound salt. Expect much harsher management of the forum here. My tolerance is past stretched thin. (Message edited by blake on March 02, 2010) |

Ahh the fun we have when mixing Old Generations with Young Generations..... We should make a new sticky/thread that has all these awesome posts in it. that way Newby's like myself and many others have a place to go for "education" and "facts"..... The only bummer would be the amount of entertainment would be less in all of these threads..... |

Blake, Think back to fall, 2007. Do you recall every magazine that first ride the pre-production 1125R (RRW, Motorcyclist, Cycle World, Motorcycle.com, Motorcycledaily.com just to name a few) all reported poor fuel injection for the pre-production bike among other issues such as excessive engine heat. Said issues were addressed prior to hitting the showroom floor. EFI was further improved with later firmware updates. Now I ask you when the last time that every journalist that tested a new bike from say, Suzuki, Honda, or even Ducati commented on how poor the fuel injection was to use? Whether you realize it in your world or not, potential customers read these things and make choices based upon them. The list is too long to name if you include other manufacturers like Triumph, BMW, KTM, etc. But based on your last post it seems you do not take kindly to being shown that the emperor has no clothes. Since this is obviously still junior high and you are bully of the school, I need to go as I hear my bell and am late for algebra. Good luck with parts in a few years. Good riddance troll.
