Hey guys i can pick up an s1 with a bad motor (spit a rod through the cases pretty bad) but i was wondering how do i get new cases how much of the vin is needed because from what the guy is telling me most aint there , so can i just supply the dealer with the frame number and copy of title and surrender what pieces are left im not sure how much is there, but didnt want to bite off more than i can chew. |

wouldn't be easier and possibly cheaper to just get a used engine off of ebay or something. |

I don't think H-D is going to reissue cases with numbers on a bike of your age. Especially now that Buell is no more. |

theres no reason they wont early buells are the same cases as sportys up to 03 |

thats my question spidey how much of the cases do i need to give back . the way the guys tellin me the story it looks like a grenade went off , and theres not much of the cases left . im not wanting to buy this to find out , they cant help me ... none of the hd dealers were open around me today ... so any help is apriciated, |

You will have to have at least the COMPLETE and LEGIBLE SERIAL NUMBER off the cases. I **think** now that you don't have to send it in before. The dealer has like 30 days after Harley-Davidson ships the new cases to have the OLD case parts returned or there is something like a $10,00 or $25,000 charge to their dealer account. The details will vary . . . . but that's kind of how it works. |

In rereading that I don't think you are going to get matching cases. If it were a warranty issue MAYBE. . . but there is, in the parts catalog, a part number for the cases. You'll end up just buying a new set of cases. |
