The Buell right side scoop is probably cheaper, and is designed to work correctly on your bike.

That scoop does look nice by the way, it almost looks OEM.

American Sport Bike sells them, its like $52 for the large one, and $15 for the small one.

I've got the A.S.B. fiberglass scoop.
It's missing the thin groove the one you ordered has, but as far as working well..."couldn't be happier".
The one you bought, looks much better.

While I've seen pictures of bikes with the one you bought, I don't know any of the owners personally.

As far as "designed to work correctly on your bike"...so is the one you bought.
Don't worry about that part..

I just received an e-mail. The scoop will be shipped on Mon. Once I receive it, I will take pics before and after installation. I will do a complete review of the entire Exp. From ordering and paying, to quality, install, and performance. I was assured it was a perfect match to the stock left scoop. We will see.

Buell large RSS works great and looks OEM in my opinion...

Fan never runs now, except at shutdown.

Why dont you post a pic? The only large buell right side scoop i have seen is like a half shell. Not completely inclosed. Im not knocking what other people like im just honestly trying to find the best most complete perfectly matching right side scoop. If they are around the same size they will all cool the motor the same. If you know of one that matches the left please post it. This one cost's way too much. 190 euro $279 us. I painfully paid for it only because I want the best for my bike.

That is not correct.

Buell when developing the XB tested the bikes with a right side scoop that was identical to the left, and using over a hundred sensors placed all over the engine, they found that it can stall the airflow and reduce cooling in some situations. It can even lead to vapor lock due to the lack of air over the fuel rails.

The OEM large scoop is a two piece system and was designed using advanced computer programs to allow it to be beneficial in all situations and not cause vapor lock.

Hey Froggy,

From a performance perspective, is the large scoop significantly better than the small scoop?

Your cracking me up! Froggy!

I tell ya what! When It gets here. I will drive with the scoop under as many diff stuations as possable. If my fan comes on more, then its a piece of shit. I will smash it and post a vid doing it for laughs. If my fan comes on half as much then Buell waisted hundreds of thousands of dollars testing hundreds of sencors an computer programs in wind tunnels to make a plastic scoop. Keep in mind it is a naked bike. Its not air tight. Its an oil cooled lump. Not rocket science.

I noticed the comfort kit comes with a fan exhaust shroud. Does anybody here have any experience with this shroud. How much better is it with it installed?

The large scoop was intended to be part of a comfort kit on the Ulysses models, along with new fan duct to help direct the airflow. The Lightning/Firebolt models do not have the same tail section, so I do not know how it is affected. The Lightning/Firebolt for 2010 came with the smaller of the two scoops. I don't know the reasons for the multiple scoops.

Your cracking me up! Froggy!

Do a search on here. The subject has been beaten to death, even with Buell engineers discussing it and providing the statements I mentioned in my last post.

quote:

If my fan comes on more, then its a piece of shit

I can assure you that the fan will run less with your scoop.

quote:

If my fan comes on half as much then Buell waisted hundreds of thousands of dollars testing hundreds of sencors an computer programs in wind tunnels to make a plastic scoop

So if they didn't do this research, and just shipped 50k bikes with the wrong scoop, and then reports start coming in of bikes stalling, what would they do? They would probably then have to issue a recall and go back to the drawing board. Buell did their homework on it. They need it to work in every situation, not just the few times you ride. : )

Their is more science involved than you think.

There have been a few Uly riders that tested it with and without the shield, and they report that it does help a little bit. I don't run one on mine, not only because it won't fit my bike, but because it is next to impossible for me to ever notice the heat.

I have seen the comfort kits, but I dont have any Exp with the shroud. I considered using the piece that slightly covers the rear header to reduce leg heat. I think you can buy it separate.

I added one and it made riding much more comfortable, plus the fan runs a lot less.

The shield did help mine. It also eliminates the need for the air flow cover guides, which is why the 2010s don't have them. No change with the fan, but mine has never ran with the engine running, only after it's shut off.

Brother_in_Buells,
I am looking for my sales receipt now but they appear the same. Its an easy install, the inner portion goes on with the original hardware, and the outer uses the new 10/32 X 5/8ths hardware. I didn't buy the outer hardware as the HD thieves wanted $3.61 per screw!
I have plenty of aircraft stainless hardware anyway.

Microfasteners.com would probably have a pack of 20 for $4 plus shipping. They ship USPS and I normally get my orders in 2-3 days since they are only one state away.

And i like to see some pictures from the front of the bike to compare the difference
and also one with only the inner half mounted.

Thanks!

Ok, I just got my new Right side scoop deliverd from Pegasus customizing. It looks better then I thought it would. It is hand crafted and made of a plastic composistion that will not melt, even after a couple years. It is painted to match the right. Here are some pics. I am going out of town for a week. When I get back I will put it on and give a review. Still have to see if it fits.

Nice scoop.
Basic fiberglass and resin. There is several types of resin on the market.

As for the Buell testing...many, many myths.
As understood from a respected/reliable source sometimes on this board...much of the Buell situation was from the EPA.
There is no fuel rail as such around the back of the cylinder, other than the fuel pump and the main fuel line. The big chunk of steel (rail !) it's way forward of the way most all right side scoops flow air.

In cold climates, you may want to build a plug. and open it for summer.
Mine, in So. Cal., open all the time.
Don't care what the supposed experts on the board say on this one...well worth the money, should have been there to begin with.
Saves MUCH wear and tear on the fan and lowers the fuel temperature.

M0851.7AA - Large Outer & M0852.7AA - Large Inner on '07 12R and '09 SCG. Should have been factory installed for Florida.
They're supposed to fit all XB's if there isn't an O2 sensor in the way on the front pipe. It would be easy enough to trim around it.

Here is my bike with the new right side scoop on. They do fit a little diff on every bike. He will tell you that. The mounts on all of our bikes are a little diff even the same year welded on the same day. The mount can be bent in or out with a little pressure or a small rubber mallet. My rear mount wass set closer to the out side of the frame about an inch more then most so I put my scoop/ the rear hole behind the rear mount. It fits great that way. Mosst fit in front of the rear mount. It is very expensive. I was told be other buellers on buellxb.com that they have found them cheaper. I could not. he give great tech support after you recieve the scoop. Here is a recent pic. Extreamly high craftsman ship. Here is the guy to contact. If your interested just send him an email.
