Acetal homopolymer has the highest fatigue endurance of any unfilled commercial thermoplastic. Under completely reversed tensile and compressive stress, and with 100% relative humidity (at 73 °F), fatigue endurance limit is 4,500 psi at 10 (to the sixth power) cycles. Resistance to creep is excellent. Moisture, lubricants, and solvents including gasoline and gasohol have little effect on this property, which is important in parts incorporating self-threading screws or interference fits. http://plastics.dupont.com/plastics/dsheets/delrin /DELRIN100STBK602.pdf |

Use UHMWPe. Great wear resistance. Thats what I will be using. |

Just my 2-cents, but vacuum infusion - Carbon fiber with a Kevlar backing seems it would be the strongest and lightest. It's not that hard to create a mold from a piece that already exists(Layer on top of the case where wanted to gain the plug, then use the plug to create your mold). 3 layers of each, probably wouldn't even weigh 1 lb and would be strong enough to stand on, and I'm one heavy guy. |

Pittsburgh guy, check out the kevlar/carbon hybrid twill fabrics. You can get lots of different color combinations. Those materials would really look good. |

I have an extensive background with designing and fabricating composite parts and tooling (fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber using wet lay up, resin infusion, and prepreg) I REALLY don't want to go this route. First, tooling will have to be designed and fabricated, then each part has to be had layed up and the parts will need to have holes and other features machined into them. I would have charge a lot for those as well (meaning $200/set won't be enough). The majority seem to want at least a half cover made of aluminum. This is the direction that I'll go. Keith |

PS Does anyone have a photo of an 1125 with the Buell or aftermarket side and lower body work? Will case savers interfere with said body work? Thanks, Keith |

Don't have a shot of the other side for some reason but the fairing does go over the engine cover somewhat more on the left |

Mountain, Thanks for the pic. How much room is there between the fairing and the case? Also, would you guys post photos of cases damaged during crashes? It would really help guide the design. Thanks, Keith |

15-20mph high side Rev A cover with stock plastic puck. The case was ground down about 1/8 of an inch.

How much are the stock case covers? About $300 for the clutch cover. |

I'll take a shot as soon as it get's light out. I went down at about 5 mph on theleft without the side fairings and it scratches the hell out of the case and the oil cooler line. Clearance is tight between case and fairing. Maybe a 1/4" on the area that overlaps. But the fairing is a little flexible there. |

Mine nicked up the puck pretty good, but nothing more, other than the pod cover. would be cool to have something that would protect the cases more. REx |

Nillaice - thanks for the links BTW. We are studying the photos. Is it common for the case pucks to get ripped off in a crash? Keith |

Hey Everyone, I am helping Keith out with the design of the case savers, and I need someone that has a REV A Clutch Cover to take a few measurements for me.
Length B is from the top of the clutch cover screw head. Thanks! |
