it should come with something to reflect the new vin. It may be something you have to do at the tag office but I belive you still have to get a custom or salvage title.but I might be wrong. (Message edited by joshinga on February 20, 2010) |

i THINK that when you order a new frame, they ask you for the vin off of the frame your replacing, and stamp that on it...at least thats what they did when i got into an accident and had replace the frame. Jake |

To order a new frame from Buell you will need to surrender the portion of your damaged frame that has your VIN on it. They will then order a new frame with the same VIN |

yay thats true, the dealer gave mine and all of the damaged parts (almost a whole bike lol) and then called me up later saying that they needed the frame back, or else there would be a 5k$ fine because of patent and copy write laws... Jake |

You are close. Not too long ago . . . in order to get a frame you had to cut out the head section, with the VIN, and send it in before. Obviously this had some drawbacks in that buy the time the bike was stripped, the old one sent in, the new one received and the bike rebuilt could be months. For the benefit of customers, and more so dealers who didn't want wounded bikes taking up shop space for months, the system was changed. The dealer now has a time frame to return the head section of there is an amount ($5,000 may be right, I'm not sure now) deducted from their dealer account. I had nothing to do with patent or copyright laws. |

It is more to make sure that there arent two frames out there with the same VIN. |
