I have a 98 S1W, and it uses a cable off the front wheel to run the speedometer.
I want to "upgrade" to a 99 up electronic version. I'm guessing that my 98 speedometer is the same size as the 99 unit, and it will fit in my stock 98 dash.

I'm also guessing i would need the electronic pick up. Thing is, i don't know where that would mount.

Has anyone did this swap?

i believe it would require having the case machined to accept the sensor, plus the gauges i believe are different diameters as well....anyone have direct info?

Dunno about the gauge housing/size, but you do have to drill the engine case and mount the sensor, and change (I believe) the output shaft on the transmission to include the magnet to drive the sensor.

Rat, the internal gears are the same, the pickup is a hall effect switch. The metal teeth going by trigger it.

Mike if you have the motor out of the frame and pull the tranny, it would not be a big deal. Two holes, one of them tapped for a cap screw to hold the sensor in place.
I don't remember if the older XL cases have the undrilled boss cast in or not.
Next time I'm in the garage I'll take a peek at one of the S2's and check for ya.

I can take pictures of my M2 cases as I've not got the motor back together yet. I'll take some measurements if you want them.
I'll get shots of the tranny cavity also.
