I have an 08 X with 9700 miles. Last week, on freeway about 2 miles from home, the bike stalled. I thought it was out of gas (F 30) so AMA sent a tow truck and gave me 2 gallons of gas. But it did not start so it was towed home. Following info from previous posts on fuel pump problems, sure enough, the fuel fuse was blown. I took the fuel pump out to check for wire chaff problem but wires are well shielded. I also checked the frame ground, found no issues there. So I put in a new fuse. As soon as the run switch was on, the fuse was blown again! It seems the fuel pump is toasted! Has anyone had similar problem? What was your solution? Is P0130.5AA the right part number for 08 fuel pump? Thanks. BTW, I have road side service from American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and it is worthed it! |

Bluex- Have you got a shop manual for your bike? I'd be pretty confident in recommending some trouble-shooting tips for an 06 or 07 but I'm not sure about the 08. You could try swapping your fuel pump relay for one of the others (they're all identical on 06 and 07 bikes and may be on your bike as well) and see if the fuse still blows when you switch the bike on. Hopefully the manual gives you a resistance rating for the fuel pump so you'll have a better idea if the fuel pump is actually bad. It should have a low electrical resistance between the two electrical terminals and a VERY high resistance between either of the terminals and the body of the fuel pump. If it's shorted internally, it'll show continuity between the terminals and the body. Hopefully Froggy or one of the other 08-up owners will chime in with some more helpful suggestions. |

Yes. I broke down in Sturgis. It was the fuel pump. Sounds like the same symptoms that I experienced. Mine was covered under warranty! I was very happy with the way I was treated by Buell and LaCrosse Buell/HD. If you are not as lucky as I was, and will have to pay the bill yourself. There is hope. There are threads that I read when I was broke down (this site) that detailed the most common problem(s)with the fuel pump. If I remember correctly it is a wire that chafes inside the pump housing. The fix was explained also. I tried to find it for you but I suk at searching...good luck! |

My '08 has blown three fuel pump fuses. The dealer could not find a problem. I cleaned up the frame grounds and have not had a recurrence in about nine months. |

Hughlysses: it is shorted internally! Safe to say it's a goner! Thanks all for you advices. |

How did you determine for certain that it is an internal problem? (I hope not just from my post) Have you (or anyone else ) found a possible fix? With this group someone should be able to help! May I suggest keeping the old pump and try to fix it as a backup. (BTW take pics if you do) |
