It's not that your belt is likely to fail, it's that you'll be stuck for several days waiting on a replacement if it does. Buy a new belt and install it before you leave home. Keep the old one for a spare. Many years. I lube them when I change the oil, and replace them every two years now. It's overkill in some peoples eyes, but it works fine for me.   Hughlysses Posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - 07:50 pm:        Almost never if you keep it properly lubricated and you don't dump the bike on that side. Although it was 4:30 AM and I was on my way to work, the short 1/3 mile push back to the house seemed rather easy when contemplating trying to get someone to help me on the toll road miles from home.
