Sunday might work. I've got a paper to write and some house cleaning to do, but that shouldn't take to long. |

Mark, Wish I could help, not close enough. Give this a shot. Symptoms! Multipul electrical problems and won't start. 1st. Check ALL Fuses! If you did't pull the battery or battery fuse before you started on the red wiring then.......look at the fuses. 2nd. loose/scrungy" black wire ground connection. "Red" wires take you to the party, "Black" ground wires get you back home. Black ground wires from the gauges will lead you to their ground ring terminal #1. Find it and do your magic! 06 Uly diagram shows the ecm and gauges share ground point #1 ring terminal bolt. 1.Remove bolt, sand/clean frame to shine. 2.Ring Terminal wires inside crimp must be shinny clean bonded to crimped ring terminal. Clean up the wires inside the crimp to shine like michel jacksons gloves or your not going to candyland, Clean, solder with FLUX and lots of heat Good luck! I will keep the light on for ya to see what results you have. Jack Multipul Gremlin chart Six grounding bolt locations on the 06 ULY diagram. GND#1= ECM B System ground and Gauges GND#2= Battery, spliced in are, Turnsignals, starter solnoid, plate light, tail light, fuel pump, voltage regulator, Aux power on,Ign relay, key sw relay. GND#3= ECM A System ground, Data Link GND#4= Flasher, 12vdc Aux power plug A GND#5= Horn, Head Lamp Gnd# = Starter |

In your face ULY! SOOOO.... the ground for the instrument cluster goes from the instrument cluster all the way back to the ECM and is grounded at ground #1.... That is a long trip for that wire... I took my circuit tester and clamped it to the ground on the front of the bike and poked the other end into the ground wire on the instrument cluster.(Pin/wire #13 on the connector) When I did that with the key on, the instrument cluster came to life. The speedo and tac both did the normal sweep and the odometer was lit up.... WOOOO HOOOO! Rather than trace the wire all the way from the front of the bike to the ECM... I spliced it and ground it on the front of the bike.... so far it works PERFECT.... knock on wood. I put the Uly all back together and I hope I can get a test ride in tomorrow.... THANKS FOR THE EMAIL KEN! and for pointing me in the right direction! |

Just for future info, You can use a test light to check for grounds by attaching the clamp to a positive, when you probe a good ground it will light Glad you got it figured out, good luck on the test ride |

Be careful how many "snake bites" you put in a wiring harness with that probe tip. Each hole in the insulation can allow water in, and the copper wire to corrode, causing opens in the circuit later on. Think it's hard to find a problem now, wait till the new problems start showing up after the corrosion sets in. |

What he said ^^^ I put a small wrap of electrical tape over the wire anywhere I stab it. |

I asked earlier in this thread if anyone had a source for the factory OEM harness wrap. Well, I found a roll of Fleece Wire Harness Tape on EBAY made by a company named TESA. TESA is a German manufacturer who supplies this tape to various auto/motorcycle manufacturers. The roll I ordered arrived today and it appears to be very close if not identical to what the Buell harness is wrapped with. Just thought I pass this on for others who might have trashed their harness and would like to make a professional looking repair. |
