I'll have to try taking off the lights, i haven't noticed much difference since installation, not that i thought i was ever a great concern. do you think these lights might disrupt air flow?

No, I did not get the 'flash' with the Comfort Kit. I decided to wait after reading comments on here where a few folks wished they had waited or not gotten it. Do you think the flash, which I understand has the fan running while riding but stopped when the bike is off, makes much difference on 'right side' heat? Doesn't the fan run all the time, or nearly all the time, when the bike is running anyway, even without the flash? What are the pros and cons of the flash? Thanks. |

The flash will make a huge difference. The fan running while you are moving carries a large amount of heat away. On hot days when my fan came on in traffic the heat on my right leg would largely disappear, even prior to installing the comfort kit and getting the reflash. |

I have the kit and reflash, also have a considerable gap between the seat and frame on the right side. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk19/SnackBauer /seat_gap/seat_gap002.jpg The blowtorch sensation I felt before is totally gone. I can ride all day in jeans with barely any heat felt out the right side. I could not be more pleased with comfort kit/reflash combo. My son had his Ss reflashed also, and no heat issues there either. |

I have the Memphis Shades wind deflectors, Piaa 510 aux lights, the comfort kit minus the fan shroud, and the seat/airbox cover to frame gap sealed with the Design Engineering heat shielding, and I believe the heat shield sealing the gap was the single biggest heat eliminator of all. Cover the hole, and you will eliminate 98% of the problem! Mine's an '06 so there's no reflash available. |

Dio, I agree, if I hadn't gotten the reflash, I think I'd have to seal that crevasse. |

Thanks, Nvr2old. Are there any negatives to the re-flash, in your experience? I remember reading that some folks had wished they waited or not had the re-flash done but I can't remember why. Any loss of power anywhere? Any noticeable effects, at all, besides the removal of the heat problem and no fan running when the bike is off? Thanks. |

The "Flash" makes the fan run all of the time above 15mph and shuts the fan off when your speed drops below 15mph and when you shut the key off..And it does not matter what the outside temp is... |

Is that all it does, Idaho? No adverse power or fuel effects? If no, I've got to get it! Thanks |

Nope, that's all I can see..Just wish it didn't run over 40mph? Should be plenty of air flow from the RS air scoop at that speed and above,so maybe it would save some fan life too?..I really do like the fan off after I shut the key off tho.. |

The reason the fan runs while in motion is so it's not a "cork" in the airflow path. A stationary fan will block more air than a moving one. From what I've learned about the flash (mine's an 06 with a race ECM, so I get a double-no-flash-available LOL) is that it ONLY affects fan logic. Instead of referencing only head temp, it now references head temp and vehicle speed. |

The thing I made is kevlar cloth with aluminum tape on it, then just plain electrical tape on the edge. Just keeps the header heat away from me. |

Idaho and Ratbuell, you guys have helped me greatly. Thank you. I'm currently on a trip but when I get home I'll get the re-flash and report back on the results. I emailed the dealer and he is ready. Thanks. Mike |

I personally got a bit crazy with the heat thing. I wrapped the headers to the collector, sealed the frame/seat gap with a few inches of weatherstrip, used the rubber gripster pads on the outside of the frame, insulated the inside of the frame with the self-stick aluminized 'asbestos' type sheeting and used the thinner version under the front of the seat. Really made all the difference in the world. Then the kit came out, so I installed that too! That just seems to make the fan run less. The biggest 'bang for the buck' was the weatherstrip and header wrap, but each thing contributed a bit. Now the only time it's truly uncomfortable is in no go traffic on 90 plus days. Can't really whiteline in NYC with a bagger. |

If the dealer is ready, take it on in. I'm glad I brought the topic up, it seemed like it had been avoided by the first few posters. When I did the kit, I had the dealer do the flash and I've been happy so far. :-) |
