Good day, Does anyone have any experience going to a 120/60/17 on the front, and or going to a 180/55/17 on the rear. I am primarily wanting to get a little lower profile rubber under me. As well as, as wide as possible without going to a chain drive. Thanks! |

You can do it. They will fit. I like 70 series on the front. Seems to be a little more forgiving when pushing hard. The tire fills the fender better. A 60 series makes it look like a dirt bike fender. |

Oh yea,...i didnt think about tire gap on the front. Might rather stick with a 70 up front. No issues with the 180 on the rear though? That was my biggest concern. Eyeballing it, i'd say it "looks" like it fits! |

When I put a 180 on the rear of mine, the bike didn't feel as "flickable" as when I had the 170 on it. Other than that, its fine. |

I'm seeing very few sticky choices in the much-preferred 170, & with literbikes going from 180/190 to 200, this situation's looking worse..... I've accepted 3k mileage for the past decade on my M2, but 5k would be better hey, guys - what are your 2 best 170 suggestions? |

I just picked up a used D208 (170/60) from the dealer for $5.00. I didn't realize that they made them in our size. It's flatish in the middle but there's lots of sides left, should be good for canyon riding. I've been very pleased with the Continental Road Attacks, good wear and they handled within my capabilities on the track. I know others locally have really liked the Sport Attacks for more aggressive riding, they both wear pretty well. I've ridden the Roads in the cold and wet on them, they were fairly neutral but didn't give much feedback on cold roads under 40 degrees outside... I think the Scorpion Sync's grip just as well if not better and are more supple for normal commuting on our sometimes rough roads, but they don't turn as well since they are pinched up a bit running the 180 on my stock 5" rim. If I ever get an XB they will be my standard. They felt quite comfortable on the 32 degree day I took them through the neighbor hood, hitting the occasional patch of slush or snow. I'll probably switch to the Dunlops and wear through them in the spring, then go back to Conti's since I've got a partial rear to use up, it should go nicely with a Sport attack on the front. |

You can get Pilot Powers in the 170 size. Really good tire. I also mistakenly had a 60-series front put on my Firebolt - it quickened the handling DRAMATICALLY to the point that I had to take it off. As for the rear, a 180 on the cast wheels might feel a little sluggish - when the wider tire is pinched a little on the narrower wheel it will leave a flat section in the center, and probalby will not actually be any wider. If you have PMs, go with a 180. |

with regards to cast wheels.. after running both 180s and 170s on the rear, I'll be sticking with a 180 from now on. The 170 feels more flickable, but the 180 gives me more confidence, it just requires that i work harder to keep the bike laid over in corners. keep in mind that cast wheels were designed for a 170 rear, PMs designed for a 180 rear. I've heard that even a 190 can work on a PM rear, but never tried it. |

I've got a 190 on cast rims(was on there when i got the X1) it is definately to big for the rim,got about 1/2 inch of tread left where the sidewall should be. Never gonna get rid of the chicken strips with the 190. I had conti roads on my 919 Hornet and loved em, it will be my prefered choice for when i replace the X1's tyres. Altho the Pilot Powers i had on the R1 where good too. |

The 60 profile on the front was crap. Felt absolutely awful. Got rid of it as soon as. Pilot Road 2s are great. Sticky enough and about 9000 kms out of a rear. That's about 5500 miles. |

i run the pilot road 2s as well. more grip than the Dunlop D207s that came with the bike and WAY more miles out of them. I got 5k on the rear and it looks like i got another 5k to go! would get them again and recommend them to anyone. if you have cast wheels, stick with the factory sizes. the 60 i ran on the front felt like shit as well and the 180 will leave you with less tread in a straight line and in the corners. |
