Ok, I've got an 05 XB9SX. The rear jugs base gasket it leaking and since it's winter I have the itch to fix it. I've got most of the stuff needed, but need a few other items.

1st off, the rubber mounts. I know in 06 the upgraded those and since I'll have the engine rotated I figure that might be a good time to upgrade those. I was looking on American Sport Bike and they sell the bracket and all. To get those new ones, do I need to get the whole assembly or can I just get the rubber and bolt?

2nd, since I'll have the jug off, I was wondering if I should get new rings for the pistons or if I'd be ok keeping the originals?

from what ive seen. its not the jug. its the starter seal. so save yourself the work and replace that first. this is what was told to me by a few buell riders that work at the dealership including a buell mechanic. i thought my rear jug was leaking too but it is the starter seal. they have made a few revisions to that seal so the new one should do the trick. its only 6 or 7 bucks so why not start there before you pull half your motor apart. spray the whole thing down with gunk before you take it apart and hose off. then dry with air compressor. let me know how you make out.

Well, I know the base gasket is leaking. It starting to leak a small amount a couple of years back. I just never did anything about it. While I'm in there I plan to handle the starter and voltage lines (from the primary) leak problems as well.

Leave the front mount and the rear alone unless they are bad. A good visual inspection with them in place is all they need, you should not need to fool with the rear one at all. Terry

I would not reuse the existing rings UNLESS you can pull the cylinder up just enough to get one of the piston pin circlips out, remove the piston pin and then leave the piston with its "compressed" rings still in the cylinder. Once you have removed the piston and rings from the cylinder I would hone the cylinder and replace the rings.
