They're still in the "R&D" phase (i.e. "put em on and go riding, and see how they do"), but I made some templates for blocking the RSS, LSS, and oil cooler scoops. I left a small opening on each, and rode home last night with weather in the 20s.

Apparently the openings I made were *too* small. My fan was running while I was riding.

At least I know the concept works, LOL.

I opened them up a little bit before the ride in today (again, temps in the hi 20s), and it worked like I hoped - no fan when driving ('06 Uly with Buell comfort kit), high speed fan for about 60 seconds at key-off, low speed for maybe 90 or 120 seconds after that. Now to get my seamstress MIL to convert my tape-and-cardboard templates into vinyl-with-velcro!

I'll get pics in the next day or so, on my days off (they yell at me if I'm out there shooting pics of my bike at work, lol).

Because a spare rag would be too simple? Or even removing the LSS? : )

Ya, spare rag is too easy.

That, and murphy's law. My rag wouldn't be big enough (no smartass comments from the peanut gallery now...) and it would get blown through the scoop, sit on the engine, and catch fire.

I'm lucky like that.

Does the oil system have a thermostat bypass?
If it didn't adding one would eliminate the need for a oil cooler cover and would help with warmups on the 30-40 deg days.

No on the thermostat bypass, it's flowing oil all the time, cold or hot.

For my oil cooler I just cut some cardboard so it slides in the scoop and sits flush against the front of the cooler, and wraps back forward at the back of the scoop. that way air pressure will keep it pushed in. The I wrapped it in black duck tape to make it weatherproof, and I haven't had a problem since. It's also not noticeable in the least.

My fan runs when I shut it off after just a 15 minute ride in 30 degrees, so I'd say it works.

I just use a piece of soft packing foam so I am able to adjust how far I put it into the oil cooler scoop. If it is really cold (less then 20F) I push in in so it also covers the entire side of the cooler fins. If it is only real cool (20 F up to 40F) I only push it in enough to close off the scoop but leave the side of the cooling fins exposed. Then if it is above 40F I just remove it & jam it in between the add on winshield & the stock windshield of the Uly.

Only you would think to pack the scoop with dead meat! If the right part gets on the cylinder fins it could smell kinda like a bar-b-que going down the road!

I can tell you from experience that taking a bird to the chest at speed is not only horrifying but extremely painful.

They need to make a winter comfort kit, it should come with a different seat and a scoop that ducts the hot air from the fan to your nuts, oh and the fan runs 4x as much.

I'm a guinness lover...but our winter drink of choice is hot apple cider with an ounce of Cap'n Morgan spiced rum in it. We do it cheap, too - get the hot cider in packets like hot chocolate, nuke a mug of water/rum in the microwave, add the mix, and presto.

And....it's full of Vitamin C. It's *healthy*, lol!

I've got the chair...but I get yelled at when I try and bring the third ingredient into the house : (

There's your problem. You gotta keep that one in the garage where your wife will never look.
