Hi there. Does anyone know the difference between the 2001 M2 and M2L shocks (rear). I guess I thought they were the same but in the FPM they have 2 different numbers. And as long as I am here does anyone have a M2L shock laying around. Well thanks anyway. Is it a difference in bolt centers.

The M2L shock has reduced/less stroke/travel.

Thanks Blake. Is the ctr. to ctr shock measurement the same then? Is it all internal? Also what would a standard M2 shock do to the handling. I just measured mine loaded (with out rider) and I see 15.175 inches sitting on the side stand. Well thanks for all the info and I appreciate it. This site is too cool. See ya'll at the homecoming.

i cant remember which issue and don't have it to hand but in one battle2win there was an article on new bikes one of which was the M2L,in a side article it gave old showa shock length, new showa shock length and M2L shock length,if i remember right it was just about half an inch longer than the standard new shock,i think it also gave part numbers and had all the stats of the other differences between the M2 and M2L,if no one else comes up with the info for you i will find the article for you and post all the info on here,if you put the shorter standard shock on a M2L you would raise the back end,if its half an inch shorter it will raise the back by about an inch,

I found some other info also. The M2 is 14 inches and a bit more. The M2L is 15.25 to 15.5. I just got a M2L (used) shock and it has the proper part number on the reservoir. Hope this helps any others and it has enlightened me. Any other info is of course appreciated. OH and these are bolt centers>
