Anyone got a track day checklist they want to share? Must-haves/fugheddaboutits? This will be the first time I'm NOT renting a bike for a trackday, so now I've got to be sure I've got everything squared away instead of just showing up and jumping on a rental. I figure: 1. Fuel 2. Front and rear stands 3. Tire warmers 4. Generator for tire warmers 5. Extra distilled water/water wetter? 6. Pop-up shade 7. Water/food 8. Duct tape 9. Tool box What am I missing? |

Not knowing your bike/setup, bring a spare belt and pegs/levers if possible. It would suck to have a day get ruined in an early spill that left you with no shifter. |

NOTEBOOK - record baseline settings BEFORE making changes: Tires - type and pressure (hot - ask Shawn!) Suspension - preload (sag) and damping settings (again, Shawn will give you excellent advice) A FRIEND!!! You do NOT want to go to the track solo. Partner up with somebody. I shouldn't have to say WHY this is important. Fire extinguisher. Snacks - energy bars for between meals. Electrolyte replacement drinks in addition to water (you can make your own) HAVE FUN!! When you going? Where??? |

This is my actual raceday check off sheet. I've deleted a few items and added some comments. You may not need all this stuff but ... One last thing, start drinking lots of water two to three days before your track day! Hydration can make or break your whole day, it's that important! Have fun and remember there are no trophies handed out at the end of the day! Raceday Check-off List Bike w/key - Put the key in the bike after you load it so you don't forget it!!!! Tie-down strap box - Fuel can - 5 gallons Radio - some tracks use an FM signal to broadcast 1st & 2nd calls plus other info Suit Clock - more important than you'd think! Under Armor - I forgot to pack mine once, I was very uncomfortable the whole day in my leathers Generator & key - Don't laugh, I drove clear up to Road America last year only to discover I'd left the Gen key at home Boots Yellow & black drop cords - for tire warmers Helmet w/both visors - unless you wear sunglasses under your helmet, have a smoked and a clear visor Gloves Tire warmers Spare tire & jack - for trailer (3) Chairs Cooler / water Work carpet - easier on your knees than knealing on asphalt when check tire pressures, etc. Buell Racing banner - REPRESENT!! Box of Rags Extra brake pads Pit Bull stands Bicycle - I always take my mountain bike, lots easier to get around than walking everywhere ****Check Trailer and Truck tire pressures Buell tool kit Spanner 1/2 drive breaker bar Axle nut Screwdriver Firebolt manual T-27 Wrench Big allen wrench for rear axle pinch bolt Race tool box Flashlight T-27 Screwdriver Safety wire & pliers Torx hex set 2 qts. - AmsOil 20/50 Allen head set Pint of synthetic brake fluid Air pressure gauge Pocket knife 22mm wrench (2) pliers 22mm 1/2 drive socket (2) Adjustable wrenches (3) straight screwdrivers Canopy Air tank Zip-ties Electrical tape Duck tape Side cutters 1/2 torque wrench Notepad and pens Race log notebook Spares Belt Handgrips Clutch lever Brake lever Shifter assembly |

Beer for when the day is done. Unbelievable how good beer tastes after a day at the track. I also have a decent sized clock so I know when I need to be on the track. |

I rode to my first track day, stripped/ tapped some parts and rode the track. At the end of the day, I put the parts back on and rode it back to the hotel. For just a track day, the min would be; 1. Bike 2. Leathers/boots/gloves/helmet 3. Chair 4. Water 5. Shade Everything else is optional. Nowadays when I go, I am basically practicing for racing and haul a van full of crap with me... lol (Message edited by Paint_shaker on December 29, 2009) |

Bingo! Especially for your first trackday, don't get all hung up about bringing everything under the sun. Bring sensible stuff with you and have fun. You will learn what you need and what you don't. |

YEP - get a SECOND set of keys and put them in your tool box. I re wired my electrical system so I have NO key for the ignition and I got the fuel cap from Pete at Grandstand Designs... no longer need a key to do anything with the bike. Makes life easier. |

Funny! I eliminated my key the middle of last season. It is amazing the number of times, at morning riders meetings, that guys ask for help with by passing their keys... Hence they are on the list A LOT. Ben: Happy New Year to you as well. I'm sure I'll run into you at Ephrata. If you are interested in another track day, let me know. |

I eliminated my key right after the 2008 season. It was very easy to do. The hardest part was desiding on where to put the switch. I used to carry one key with the bike, one key on my key chain, and one in my tool box. |

My key is safety wired to the top triple clamp. That or a couple of plastic zip ties to keep it attached while you're at the track. Erik - instructions please! You're bike & mine are fairly similar... |

Yeah, she kind of busted me when I asked her to take a lot of candid photos in the pits to go along with my race reports this year. She wanted a GPS. She doesn't go any where. |

I say again, don't dare get to the track without a notebook... ESPECIALLY for suspension/tire settings and conditions. You can get a good suspension setting checklist/guide from Dave Moss' website: http://www.feelthetrack.com/tuning_guide.htm Dave has been the guy doing the series of suspension videos for RRW through OnTheTrackTV and is a HELLUVA expert out here. Takes a while to get suspension/tires right... if not, the whole track experience can be pretty frustrating. |

I got my wife a Forerunner 305 GPS with the heart rate monitor. I've been a good boy & haven't "borrowed" it yet. She DID say she wanted to start running right? |
