Hi. I was wondering if anybody here knows how to change the light color of the dashboard. I'm waiting for a new background from xbdashboards.com and I'd like to do everything at the same time. In the website they have a pretty nice explanation on how to disassemble the dashboard, but of course it doesn't involve the light bulbs. Do you guys think this can be done? Thanks and happy new year everybody |

Alex, the standard instrument lamps are screwed into the rear of the circuit board of the instrument panel (half-turn). This is a close-up of one of the standard lamps along with a non-standard replacement bulb that can be fitted to the standard plastic bit when there are no Buell parts in the country. When I was replacing my background lighting bulbs (at around 80,000km they all failed one by one) my friend remarked that they looked like lamps from his sons Range Rover. This photo shows the standard Buell lamp beside a green Range Rover lamp - they have a thin rubber cover over the glass section. He also had orange coloured bulbs - I don't have the part numbers but I'm sure your local Range Rover dealer could help. |

Not sure what color you're looking for, but we have red, green and white LEDs that fit. For the back lighting, they're a little tall, but a little dragging the top of the plastic dome lens on the LED across some 220 grit sandpaper fixes that. The LEDs are brighter than the regular lights, so that sanding actually helps diffuse the hotspot a bit. See http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/9506.html Al |
