I am mapping a 3 day route through PA, which is part of a larger route that goes from ME to GA, and intersects the Trans American Trail system

My route is all minor back roads, including all the stone roads I can find. No dirt trails because in PA they are all gated or marked no trespassing. But I do have a government generated map overlay for all the stone roads in PA.

What can I expect for MPG?

I need to make my route to go past fuel stations as required, I just need to know how often.

Is 100 miles close enough?

A 2007 Uly should easily get 40-45 MPG under those conditions. 100 miles is plenty close enough and you could probably safely do 150 if not farther.

Be sure and post a ride report when you make the trip.

Seems like 100 would be a safe number to go by. Anything over that would be dependent on how you rode. A heavy wrist with lots of stop lights, stop signs, and curves is going to make the light come on somewhere between 110 and 120. Taking it easy and just cruising open roads could push that out to 150.

Just my 2 cents

I sure will post a ride report. (next spring when it gets warmer.)
This is part of a larger project from over at Adv rider called the Trans Eastern Trail or TET (in the laying tracks section).

I have 3 days routed so far. Stopping at known good campgrounds. I start at Cabelas in Hamburg pa and head NW up through the mountains to clinton County. I go as far north as RT6, west into Elk county, down to State Collage, then west of Harrisburg to the Michaux State Forest.

I started at Cabelas because my Riding buddy can meet me there, but my start location will move once I hear from the guy doing the NJ route.

There already is a good route from Michaux state forest heading south.

If someone out in West PA wants to work with me to add loops off my route PM me.
there is thousands of miles of stone roads between Erie and Altoona. We could add 2 more days riding! (I don't want to bite off more then I can chew).

We are staying off the Trails, mainly because PA don't want bikes on them.

I also found a map PennDot uses to track stone roads. I converted this into an overlay I use in Topo8 and Mapsource. Turn on the overlay and all stone sections of a road are highlighted!

I would also plot for 100 mile stops, possibly 80 or so if you are in more remote areas, just in case one town has some obscure "No gas on Tuesday" law or something else unexpected. Bring one of those spare fuel jugs and strap it to the luggage racks.

I just got back from a 1800 mile trip using all back roads and 130 was my upper limit.

For that kind of ride it's not a bad idea to carry a spare gallon of gas on the bike. I've seen at least one Uly ADVrider that suspended a gallon container from one of the passenger footpegs so as not to use up luggage/seat space.

I go 120 miles before the fuel light comes on.
Looking forward to details on your trip.

I had a look at some of the roads south of the pa grand canyon, really nice.
