There are brand new shinko f009rr's on my m2. I was told these tires don't do too well in the twisties. They seemed fine when I rode em. What do u guys run? Is the marketing guy at my local speedshop an idiot? |

I have Skinko 009 Ravens on my Bandit 1200. That bike ate up a set of Michelins in just a few thousand miles but the Shinkos are wearing well and should last much longer. As for grip in the twisties, they take more time to warm up than the Dunlops on my Buells but, once warm, they stick very well and they handle predictably. Although there are stickier (and faster wearing) sportbike tires out there (for a lot more money) I am not sure they are worth the money unless you are going racing or are VERY aggressive in canyons. Shinkos are made using Yokohama's tooling and they come in a variety of compounds. 009 Ravens are Sport Touring tires but they also come on some very sticky race compounds in 006 Podium tires and even full-on racing slicks. 009 Ravens should be a good choice on a Cyclone, especially if you ride on the street, commute, or tour where longevity and puncture resistance are important. Also, they are not expensive to buy so if you find yourself sliding on corner exits, you can replace them with a set of 006 Podiums and still be dollars ahead. I like Skinkos. Your local speed shop guy is probably just thinking in terms of absolute race track performance - but you have to ride in the real world. |

I just put on a set of Bridgestone BT021 Sport Touring tires. They have good grip and are supposed to last a while. I still have about 1/2 wide chicken strips, I like to keep a margin of safety in case the road has sand, gravel, oil, or I need to make a course correction. In a perfect world, I would lean a little more . |

I have the ravens on my X1. So far, I havent had any problems. Only once did I feel a little slip, but I was turning on the yellow paint in the road. Although i'm in tucson, its still about 40 in the mornings when I ride to class and no issues (although I dont ride them hard that early). Only had them for about 800 miles, but no problems with wear. I got my set online for $140 shipped. Wish I had the tools to put them on myself though. |
