the deal on a 09 White 1125R. Loved it ever since I walked into the dealer last week. I wasn't really in the market for a new bike (looking for a used), but I couldn't pass up this bike. I've been doing a lot of research and it seems to be a great bike. This will be my first street bike (I've been riding dirt since I was 10), so I am very excited. Just a little nervous about exposing myself to 2 ton pieces of steel on Houston roads! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and compliment the site. From what I have read, all of you are passionate about the brand/sport which is great to know given the latest situation. I am a little nervous about support and future parts availability, but I am just going to ride and enjoy life. Later! James |

James- Welcome to Badweb and congratulations on your impending 1125R purchase. If you've never ridden on the street before, I strongly recommend you sign up for the MSF beginning rider course. Your dirt riding experience will be a big help, but this course will help a lot for giving you the street skills you need to ride safely. Hugh |

Dirt bike experience helps if your dirt bike experience is good. It's a different head space. in the dirt, you don't have oncoming traffic and people want to finish, on the street, some don't care where they're going. Nature is more forgiving than man-made so wear all the gear all the time. Have fun. |

Excellent choice, and I'm not just saying that because I own a white/blue '09R. They are awesome machines! Mike |

James, Your bringing up old memories. I went from a string of dirt bikes to a 1978YamahaXS11 back in '79 as my first street bike. What a thrill, I took to it like a duck to water and the dirtbikes really got me ready for it. Just act like everybody on the hwy doesn't see you and you should be alright. If you don't have your M/C endorsement the 1125 might be a little difficult to get it with, I don't know what your state requires. Take your time, respect the bikes speed and power cause it will likely be more than enough. If you ride straight up on the 1125 it will wheelie on you, usually later in the powerband where your going perdy GD fast. The bikes speed handling is superb, likely will be beyond your capabilities for quite some time. Have the dealer take the slack out of your throttle cable. The slow speed responses of that throttle is really touchy till you get use to it and the engine breaks in some. Always "idle" warm the engine up (wont be hard in Texas)and avoid jacking the throttle like its a dirtbike. The engine management system kinda rebels against that stuff. At times the noises the engine makes may cause some alarm but I assure you, its just the nature of the beast. Take care (Message edited by metalrabbit on December 06, 2009) |

I agree with ride like all cars will hit you! I live in Houston too and avoid riding anywhere there is traffic. We have been inundated with people who can't drive or drive like there are no signs. I head west always towards backroads and the "Hill Country". Enjoy that bike--I believe we have been lucky enough to acquire the Vincents of our time! Cheers, Mickey 09 1125R "Black Lighting" |

Welcome and congrat's. These bikes are addicting. I'm actually trying to get more into the dirt biking. My hubby and I were out looking at toy haulers yesterday so we can get into the dirt more. The only problem is, we need to find time in between the street bikes. Enjoy and ATGATT |

Welcome to the boards and to Buell. I can only echo the importance of MSF and gear dirt riding helps with the bike but it ends there the street is a different animal all together. |

Street riding is great, and if there is one bit of advice to really stress it's don't trust your mirrors, ALWAYS give the glance over your shoulder when changing lanes on the highway or pulling out to make a pass on a backroad. It's called a "livesaver" in England. If it only saves your ass once ... |

James- Goodluck getting an R, it shouldnt be hard in this area. I am from Houston to and am guessing your dealing with Mancuso? If so I'd take a drive to Austin or Dallas it would definitely be worth the gas I'm not affiliated with either but have been to 4 dealers to get my 09 CR last month and know Mancuso got a large shipment two weeks ago but they are a terrible dealer to work with and also have the highest prices and dealer BS fees |

Motorcycle Safetey Foundation. http://www.msf-usa.org/ If you have to ask what MSF stands for, I would definitely suggest you enroll in a class. The beginner class is excellent for communicating the core principles of safety, in keeping alert to your surroundings and knowing how to respond to certain situations. |

Hi James, I don't know how old you are,how long you've had you're m/c license, or how effed up insurance companies are in Tx. Here in Dirty Jersey an insurance company won't even write a policy for a new or young rider for a bike of this displacement. You may want to look into it.I see so many kids here buy these big bikes and then can't even ride them. You chose a nice bike, if you have to sell it... I'll take it off your hands... Congratulations, Mike G |

damn, I would have hated growing up in these times. I owned 3 used cars before I even had a drivers license. Didn't have a license till I got out the army in '72 but I had a military lic to drive a jeep to a 60 ton tank chaser. If it all goes sideways on ya there are many good bikes out there, several I would want. If I lived in Jersey or Texas I would have saved my money and bought a full size helicopter, I hear they corner perdy good. |

welcome, as a fellow owner of an 09 1125R in white you have made a great choice, first thing to consider is removing the noid, do a search on the forum for the reasons why. Enjoy your bike |
