Check this out. I read the press release about Erik Buell Racing and went to the URL. I sent an email inquiring about suspension parts and other race parts for my 1125R and Erik responded HIMSELF! Awesome! >> Jeff, Thank you very much for your kind comments. The 1125's are really good motorcycles, and I am sure you are going to have fun on yours. We hope to have our facilities set up before Christmas, and be able to start shipping race parts shortly thereafter. My goal is to get everyone who has written in onto a database so we can follow up with messages, but it may be a bit sloppy. All of this is feeding into my home computer at the moment as we don't have any computer equipment in the new facilities. So watch our website right after the start of the New Year. I know we have all the things you want, but everything is packed away and bundled on pallets waiting to be moved in to the new place. We should start shipping right after the New Year. We appreciate your support, and wish you the best for your track time in 2010. I just bought an 1125R (my 4th Buell) and I absolutely love it. Not just because it’s the best Buell ever, but because it’s one of the a greatest bike’s I’ve owned, period. I also have an MV Agusta F4 1000R so I know what I’m talking about. Anyway, I am very interested in improving the track performance of my new steed and am interested in items such as the Ohlins steering damper, track-optimized steering head insert and Showa suspension front and rear upgrades. Please let me know when these parts are available. Thank you in advance and best of luck in your new venture. Warmest regards, Jeff << |

I think if he has a very solid pre packaged engine management system that could be the biggest seller hands down. |

I would NOT be very surprised to be very surprised. Y'all never know what may happen when you toss a handful of passionate, smart and creative folks into a racing "skunk word" unconstrained by that big corporate yoke. (Message edited by court on December 05, 2009) |

I'm just dying to see if the XB race exhaust is the one we've seen in the past...always did like that muffler. |

Doesn't look like they're asking to show the race licenses like HD demanded. Is that right? Or shouldn't I say that out loud? |

There will be no requirement for a race license. It's up to YOU to own and operate your bike legally. There is a statement to that effect on the website. If you purchase something clearly intended and marked "not for use on public roads" and break the law . . . .you alone, not the manufacturer, bear responsibility. Trust me . . . I was riding with an engineer in WI last year who was ticketed for an illegal exhaust system and paid dearly for it.

Court, I was wondering what ever happened to the ECM I bought a few years ago for my M2 and was labeled right on the unit "for racing use only". I always wondered why HD/Buell could not have done that with race parts for our 1125's? It seems simple enough to avoid EPA and local laws against litigation. Where am I going wrong? Also very glad to see Erik off to a great start. Its gonna be a great year! I have always kept the idea of personal responsibility for all our individual actions especially in our driving/riding. We also need some freedom from government involving themselves in our daily lives. |

So will we see a race only ecm that anyone can buy? I know i'll be waiting to buy an Old Stinky Beaver tune until we hear something definite. |

The current race ECM's are labeled "Race Use Only", however as a manufacturer Harley and Buell are under much higher scrutiny than the aftermarket and that is why they required a race license to purchase them. Just because something has a warning that claims an intended use, doesn't mean that the manufacturer still won't be held liable if someone uses it other than intended. It's a very gray area that has even gotten some aftermarket companies in trouble (Dynojet for example). |

I'm just hoping that a system for both roadracing and drag racing has or will be developed. Thanks for any info on this. --- On Sat, 12/5/09, Erik Buell Racing <info@erikbuellracing.com> wrote: From: Erik Buell Racing <info@erikbuellracing.com> Subject: Re: congrats To: pkasianczuk@yahoo.com Date: Saturday, December 5, 2009, 4:11 PM The 1125 will be lots of fun on the dragstrip. Very cool. Both the fact that the parts I am looking for will be available, and the Class the man had to answer me himself. Outstanding news! |

Well, Court, you made me look up the laws on exhausts. Looks pretty loose here, as long as the exhaust doesn't have a "muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device", it's good. If not, it's a $CDN85 fine. |

My XB9R deserves an EBR exhaust for all she has been through these last few months. Getting orphaned and all.... |

Strongbad; evidently much has changed since 2003 when I bought my "race use only" ECM and especially since the lost lawsuit with Dynojet in California. I totally understand, and appreciate what Erik will be doing with "race parts" in the future. Semi-retirement to go racing, outstanding! GO EBR! |

It seems simple enough to avoid EPA and local laws against litigation. Where am I going wrong? Maybe they could have. Or maybe not. Knowing for sure requires getting sued/prosecuted, and you can't really blame someone for not wanting to take that risk. |

will it be possible to buy a new 1125 from eb racing, for new owners? Sure, if you want a $40k race bike. I can't see them building any street legal motorcycles. |

Yes, you may buy a motorcycle. You may not register, get tags or insure it. |

Well, they won't all be $40,000, but they won't be street legal. They also will have the VIN pads staped with a RO (race only) along with the number to indicate they can't be registered. |

Off topic: How do racers insure their bikes? Not against collision, obviously, but against general liability (your bike catches fire and burns down your fellow clubman's trailer) and theft? I just renewed the license on my track-only 1125. It's not seen a license plate or inspection sticker in well over a year, but I keep 'em up to date anyway, and carry general liability insurance on the bike just for personal protection. The liability is cheap ($50 a year maybe for 500k?) but it would be nice to quit paying the state every year for registration. |

I'm sure your insurance policy does not cover your bike when at the track. Check with your agent. I'm sure there are companies but don't know of any personally. |

> I'm sure your insurance policy does not cover your bike when at the track. Believe it or not, mine does! As long as I'm not *racing*, it's covered. So, when I'm there on a regular member day, it's actually covered. At least here in Texas, it's the norm to my understanding. I'm not personally concerned with track coverage though. I'm mostly concerned with general liability -- some kid futzing with it and knocking over on him and me getting sued -- that sort of thing. And, of course, just general theft. |

+1 Jdugger, had a long chat with my local agent with State Farm about this. So long as I am not actively participating in a "race" then I am good to go. |

You would need to read the fine print, but most companies will cover you as long as its not a "timed" race. Some companies encourage track days because it is a safer environment (no cars, EMTs a earshot away), plus it helps you learn your bike. |

I believe it gets to be even more fun reading. You may not be covered if you're involved in a risk taking activity. However, the damage and injury you do to others is covered. Even more fun is that, if your bike insurance doesn't cover it, they can go after your car insurance to cover it. So go with the above advice: read the fine print, talk with a real agent. |
