To isolate the sidestand switch do I just cut the 2 black wires that go from the white plastic connector to the switch and join them together? btw its a 2001 Cyclone, I have a miss and want to start on the easy things first, its got new inlet manifold gaskets along with exhaust port gaskets. Thanks

Before you cut them and do more damage than necessary just unplug the connector and jump the two pins. I've got a small piece of metal wedged between mine. If it turns out that that is the problem then cut and splice.

is the connector supposed to be stuffed under the oil tank?

like said above, unplug it and jump them together. Thats what i did when my bike didnt start. What i really did was cut the plug off the switch and soldered them together and plugged the plug back it. Worked great for a year will my bike kept dying... ended up the plug was loose within itself. Cut the plug out completely and bike has never run so good.

Or you can eliminate the entire safety circuit...clutch switch, wiring, diodes, relay and all. There's a good diagram in the service manual.
