Cant seem to get the left side allen bolt off of the oil cooler. There is not enough room to get to the nut behind it to hold it in place. Any suggestions? |

I've pulled mine off at least 10 times now for various reasons, 13 mm craftsman open end wrench fit just fine. It's at an angle, but it will hold. |

Thanks damn its tight. When I do get that bolt off. Any chemicals used to pry exhaust off headers? Or its pretty easy to pry off? (Message edited by freezerburn840 on November 26, 2009) |

Very easy to pry off, pull down and back on the canister or you can put some WD-40 on it. |

Also make sure to loosen the right side footpeg bracket just a hair. Once it's loose, the pipe will almost fall off on it's own. |

As above, when you get everything loosened/lubed, pry on the stock exhaust near the exhaust tips as that increases your mechanical leverage on where they attach to the downpipes. Jeff |

If you look closely there is a devit (sp?) or channel/crease on the front of the exhaust that allows for a wrench to slip under the cooler and in to hold that nut while you remove from the left side. (Message edited by macchiato on November 26, 2009) |

Okay still having trouble got all three allen bolts off. There seems to be something else holding it up it just wont budge other than where the headers are at. I am pushing down with my foot where the exhaust tips are at. It still wont go. |

I dont know what else to loosen I'll check around the footpeg. There was one that was holding it up but that one is out. Maybe there is another I count 3 i'm looking around for what could be holding it up. maybe there is 4 but i dont see it. (Message edited by freezerburn840 on November 26, 2009) |

Damn I dont know I even loosend the allen bolt next to the dipstick. I am trying my hardest to get pressure on the back of exhaust thing wont budge. |

I got it there was a 4th allen bolt around the pulley on the left. I'm an idiot thanks for the help guys. New exhaust pics by tomm.! Happy thanksgiving. |

There are 4 points, the headers are very snug, I pulled down while tapping with a rubber mallet. Also one of the allen bolts can only be accessed by passing through the holes in the belt pulley tensioner.

I would suggest putting some kind of padding under the bike while you're wrestling the stock muffler off of the headers. Hard contact with the ground put a nice flat spot on mine once it finally broke loose. |

Hey thanks for the pic. Yep that was my last hurdle now I have a new one. Did any of you guys try to re use the header inserts on your new slip on exhaust? Or you did not need them? Mine the slip on expanded ends are too wide and are off I might need new inserts. Thanks guys for all your help. |
