Went over and took a look at the bike, sure as $h!t the forks are slightly uneven, not much but when you look at the boss for the axle the left side has a little more meat under it. And looking underneath the swingarm there is a little "block" molded in on each side,I suppose that was supposed to help keep it from sliding off a conventional swingarm lift. Am I to assume this doesn't quite cut it?? |

I use a pitbull set, front and rear. The pitbull front doesn't have any side loading issues - it's hinged about 3" above the axle line. Insert pin, which aligns the top half of the stand correctly with the steering head. Levering the bike up with it is only moving the *lower* half of the stand, no side or fore-aft loads on the steering. I have pins for my XB and tubers, need to get one for the 1125 now. |

That Pit Bull front stand is nice, video makes it look SO easy to lift. Just wish they weren't so darned expensive! |

I ordered the GPI stands today, did some measurements and talked to Lee and we think they will fit on the factory spools on the CR. I will let you know when they come in. He also mentioned possibly having an adaptor in the works for the swingarms without the spools. |

Cme2c, I was definitley impressed by the fact that Lee got back to my email on a Sunday night, says a lot about his dedication. I would be REAL interested in that adaptor if it comes out. Let me know your thoughts on the stands when they come in. |

Cme2c, When you do get the stands, please check for the rest of the 09'ers about clearance between the spool adapters and the side of the swingarm. I was thinking about it, and not knowing how far out the 09 spools are, I am wondering if the metal legs that stick upward when cupping the spool would contact the swingarm. Our swingarms are not straight up and down like most bikes i've seen... the outward angle on the swingarm makes me wonder if they would contact. I don't want to scare you; I want them to work great! I just want to point out something I hope you can check for. Thanks. ...and FWIW, Lee does have a "coming soon" item on his product page that I'm interested in. Apparently, an add-on steering stem lift adapter that is to be used in conjunction with existing front fork stands, as an attachment to lift from the steering neck as opposed to the bottom of the forks. If/when that does show up on GPI's site, I'd be pretty anxious to check it out. (Message edited by torquaholic on November 16, 2009) |

You need to replace those spools for exactly that reason - I scratched my swingarm up pretty good the first day I had the bike and was setting up the suspension. The problem with the factory spools is they have no inside standoff to keep the stand ears from sliding over and into the swingarm. I used Iron Horse spools (cheap), but any will work that have an inside shoulder wide enough to clear the swingarm. If you have to look, Yamaha R1/R6s use the same 6mm bolt size. KeS |

Ok, not my greatest work, but I was able to snap a few quick ones of the GPI Industries stands before the sun went down. Here's the front and rear with the standard, universal, swingarm mounts:
The position I had the rear attachment was right up on the boss underside the swingarm. If I slid the cups more to the rear, I could have gotten it off the ground some more, but as it sat, I was able to fit my fingers under the tire. That's all the height I need. Here's a shot a little closer:
To use D_adams spools on the '08, I had to take a floor jack and spread the width of the rear stand to work. Good thing these are one-piece steel! Unfortunately, the spools are just a hair too high up for the spool attachments to work as-is. They should work just fine with spools set lower in the swingarm, as on '09 models. I'll have to either modify the spool attachments to increase the height they sit away from the stand, or I can add another box tube on top of the existing one and secure the spool attachments up higher that way. I'd rather not install a taller wheel because the stands are designed to sit flat on the ground. A taller wheel would lift most of the stand off the ground. Here's how the spools sit in the attachments:
The front, as many have pointed out, is uneven. These lifted the front without a problem, but I do see room for improvement. The right side lower cylinder that the fork rests on will be getting some extra padding soon to compensate for the decreased fork length compared to the other side. No problem; that's easy to work with.
Overall, I'm very pleased with GPI industries. Lee has top-notch customer service. The stands are certainly beefy. I much prefer the one piece stand compared to several of the bolt-together types. Quality for the dollar, I think it can't be beat. I'll have to do a small amount of engineering to get them to work perfect on my bike, but for those with '09 bikes, it should be good right out of the box if you have a good set of spools on. Lee also responded to my email last night about the head-lift adapter mentioned on his website. He seems to be at the mercy of the steel manufacturer, but he projects they will be available for purchase in 3 weeks.
For another opinion about these stands, see this link: http://www.600rr.net/vb/showthread.php?t=101236 I hope that I'm not breaking the rules by posting a review about a product not supplied by a BadWeb sponsor. If that's the case, please let me know. Thanks. |

I just received my GPI stands to try on my 2009 CR. The factory spools are too short and have no inside shoulders, so they allow the lift forks to rub the swingarm as mentioned in a previous post. We need spools that have inner shoulders about 1/2 inch from the base of the spool, in order for the lift forks to clear the swingarm comfortably. I also spread the stand legs about 1.5" with a bottle jack after asking Lee if he thought that would be ok. I made some temporary spools out of 6mm bolts and some spacers and washers until I can find some that would work. Does anyone know where to find some spools with the inside shoulders at least 1/2" out from the base of the spools? |

Post me up a picture with the dimensions you want, I could probably make a set easy enough. 6061 aluminum, maybe 7071 if I can find some handy. |

do you think once you get some spools made, you can use the stand without any other issues? |

I have D Adams spools for 1125 and use a standard Pitbull stand. I just spread the jack and put some washers under the stands hooks to get the bike up off the ground so I could get the tire off easier. When I am just working on the bike I use my Dark Horse Moto sliders for spools. I like the D adams spools because I am able to use my existing stand. |

My old stand wouldn't quite get the wheel off the ground. I replaced the wheels with a pair from an old lawnmower.

Torquaholic: Thanks for the documentation on Lee's stands, appreciate the time and effort. I'm still leary on drilling into my swingarm, still leaning toward bending over & getting the Pit Bull stands (as long as the KY is handy)! |

Hogluvr, no problem, I'm just trying to offer a more cost effective alternative to the pit bulls. I knew there was going to be some extra effort involved, but oh well... still cheaper than buying a front and rear pit bull. Thursday evening, I had a local fabricator make up some extended spool adapters out of solid core steel (for $10!). The weather was crap Friday and today; tomorrow should be great. I plan on cleaning the bike up and checking out the new spool adapters in the sunlight. I'll post up some pics tomorrow of the new adapters and the final product. |

Large pics taken today in the sun, with newly fabricated rear spool adapters! 1) http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa243/foxbodynu t89/GPI2.jpg?t=12589179151) 2) http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa243/foxbodynu t89/stands2008.jpg?t=1258917957 Rear is so much more stable with spools than with universal cups. I can shake the tail section, bounce it up and down.. didn't go anywhere. --Kevin (Message edited by torquaholic on November 22, 2009) |

ok, I already had the T-rex stands for when I was working on the Firebolt. Tried to use the rear spool adapter today on the 1125R and cannot get it to work - too narrow. What am I doing wrong? Even if I could get it to fit, when the spool pieces are flipped to the top, it looks as if the padded side will contact the belt guard on the left side. Help!? |

Swap the T-Rex L&R cradles (so they are backwards -- short side forward). That will work. That's what I did. It still comes really close to scratching the swingarm, so be careful. |
