What a waste!!!
This photo was found on another site (ADvrider.com). This has to be from the factory. I will dumpster dive for that any time. (Message edited by socalmoe on November 15, 2009) |

Repost. Not a sin, you don't want those bikes anyway. |

If I reposted I apologize, but those things are worth more in parts than as a whole bike. I am in the parts business (electronics) so all I see is $$$. |

Manufacturers scrap test mules, press demo bikes, and other used and abused bikes. So what happens to Buell if they sell those bikes for parts and someone crashes when a cracked subframe breaks through? That's just one example, but it's too much of a liability to sell bikes like those. |

Would Buell/HD be liable if they didn't stop people from scavenging the dumpster mules? Parts alone are worth a fortune. They could be sold off of Ebay without repercussion. |

Yes they would be liable. There is a long trail of paperwork to accompany those bikes to the crusher. |

I would guess it is a phony picture. Reason being I don't think you could throw the tires and who knows what else in a dumpster. Most likely they would legally be required to sort out hazardous waste and recyclable materials, or be put in a gulag for violating Eco police laws. |

Photo is real boyz, happens every day at the factory. They are picked up by a licensed recycler and sold for scrap metal. Every HD/Buell assembly plant has a contract with the recycler in the local area. |

I'm going to start dumping my crap at factory dumpsters. We have to sort everything out into groups for recycling or the recycling police show up. |

The "cycler" doesn't get them in that condition the dumpster is going to the crusher first and then to the "cycler". They will all look like the 2010 Blast when their done. |

What's the PDC? Seeing that I'd be tempted to drive by and take a peek to see what kind of security is around at night. That hurts to see. I just want 1 bike! |

Strong u really think they are not there? U think someone photoshoped this pic? LOL This happens daily at every manufacturer. Those that paid for a Brand new Uly actually paid for a part of these in round about way. |

I have no idea if they are in the open or there is a gate to go through to a secure area, but it can't hurt to go take a look. |

I'll borrow my neighbors Electrafatboysoftrearend, throw on some leather chaps and pretend I'm one of the old boys executives gang that bought into the Harley image locally and went out and bought their first bikes a few years ago to be cool. Then I'll drive right through the gate like one of the buys. No problem. Along that line I'll relay a story about the CEO of my former employer. He bought his first bike during the Harley glory days to be one of the boys. He had it delivered to work and promptly fired it up, went a few feet and tipped over. The maintenance guys at the hangar got a good laugh after he left. (whoops, for the locals that probably gives away who the CEO was in the story) |

I'm not saying the dumpsters don't exist, just that that particular dumpster doesn't exist at the PDC and it is not in an area open to the public. |

Oh no not in public view, we would all be dumpster diving! That is right before all are cubes in the crusher. That is an old pic of the first 100 run of the Uly's I'm sure. |

Heck they have shredders now that will take a school bus and reduce it to shards in a few minutes. A few handfuls of m/c would barely make it breathe hard. More like toothpicks to clean the shredder's "teeth". After shredding an magnet does wonders to separate our some goodies from others. |

Getting in is probably no problem, but they damn near strip search u on the way out. You need a HD badge is all u need/or someone with one that will sign u in. LOL |

>>>You need a HD badge Hehehehe . . I still have mine . . . although I suspect it's long expired. However . . still works for getting out of tickets . . . "yes, officer . . I am a test rider for Harley-Davidson Motor Co." and them flip them the photo ID of a smiling young me in an Aerostich. Best one was the time I went flying by the Trooper . . . . by the time he caught me I'd dug out my "Official Law Enforcement Radar Calibration Unit" placard . . . . . he asked "any idea how fast you were going?" . . . "yes, precisely 94mph". . . . "I had you clocked at 95MPH". . . . "that's close enough . . . please mark you unit calibrated on this date and have a safe day officer" . . . . as I started to pull away . . . he yelled . . . . "whoa". He said he didn't think it was funny but the smile gave him away. I got a warning. The only better answer was last month when two NYPD cops grabbed me as I was leaving a parking lot in Times Square and had just made a move that would impress Joey Chitwood . . . across 5 lanes to make the left turn. The guy pulled me over on 48th, just off of 8th . . . he walks up . . I have all the interior lights on and both hands hanging out the window, palms down, with the keys sitting atop the back of my hand (don't ask how I learned that) and the guy says . . . "what was that move back there? " . . . knowing the jeopardy a lie would place me in . . . . "that was a complete idiot you saw trying to drive with his head up his ass. . . how'd I do? He broke out laughing, told me to slow down and cut me loose. Almost every cop I have ever met has a sense of humor and hates being lied to or treated like a fool . . . |

Gads. . . I've had some HILARIOUS encounters with the law zooming through 44 states on Buells. Most memorable. . .
- Upstate NY near the Finger Lakes - chased by pursuit Mustang - cop started looking at Buell, I gave him a hat and a brochure . . he was totally taken with the bike and I finally told him . . . "I hate to do this to you but I really have to run". He'd forgotten why he pulled me over.
- 3 tickets in Ohio in 3 days (2 in a single day) when I was zooming, spur of the moment, from Topeka, KS to Pocono. It was a last minute call in the night that I needed to be at Pocono for a Buell event that needed support. I was in a hurry I'll grant ya. Cop pulled me over and I ask him how he got me . . he said "laser" . . I told him there was no laser that worked from a moving car . . he told me "didn't used to me" and showed me the gear . . I was sitting in the Crown Vic playing with the gun and he couldn't get me to leave . . . he finally asked "weren't you the one in a big hurry?
- Same tickets in Ohio - I'm sitting in my office in Topeka, had pretty much forgotten them and suddenly noticed the court date was the next day. Called to ask for a continuance . . no will do for out of state. I ask the gal if she can give me the name of a good atty . . she's not allowed to. I tell her a sob story about how unfairly I was treated . blah, blah, blah and she says "let me guess, it was a State guy . . they always do that?" I tell her . ."you're right and then they make it look like fine public servants like you who are the bad folks when the aggrieved come to pay" The gal goes quietly ballistic and says . . "they are such assholes, I shouldn't do this . . . but call this number". I call the attorney . . tell him my story and his response "no kidding, a Buell? . . one of the ones that kid in Wisconsin builds?" . ."yeah, right". The guy was a huge Buell fan, got me reduced to illegal parking and didn't charge me a nickel.
- Classic is still the "car chase" our near Lancaster, CA on the way to Willow Springs where the cop nailed two of us at once and I, every time he walked past me, kept telling him how bad I felt for him having to take the crap from the drivers wife who was screaming at him . . . "where I'm from we don't talk to law enforcement officers that way" . . . "I can't believe your patience, I'd have shot her" . . .he finally tells me, about the 3rd trip past . . "look . . I'm going to cut you loose just so I don't have to listen to you . . but until I can get rid of these folks can you shut up?. . . "yes sir!"
