I noticed my cooling fan(s) come on at approximately 170 degrees. Why do they come on at that low of a temp? Im going to take a guess that because of a high compression ratio, they need to keep the coolant temp as low as possible to avoid detonation? | ||

The only time I can "notice" my fans is if the bike is sitting still. My guess is, they reference vehicle speed - like the Uly comfort kit flash does - and fire the fans to get airflow across the radiators. They may come on when the bike is moving...but I haven't heard 'em yet. | ||

Same here. I cant tell if they are on when Im moving, but at idle, they start up at about 170 degrees. | ||

The electrical service manual says the fans are on constantly after 170 degree coolant temperature is reached. ac | ||

Gotta have a supply of lower temp coolant just incase the motor needs it, dosn't necessarily mean that the thermostat is open and circulating at 100%. | ||

The fans come on and run backward to blow the hot are out the front of the bike. Bend down and feel all the hot air being pushed AWAY from the bike when you are sitting idle. It's a good thing! | ||

Thermostat opens at 157-162, fans come on at 172. Thermostat "locks" at ~182. Fans come on at 77C, ~171 dF. Fans will turn off when CT falls below 160. If the key is off, fans will come on at 189 and run until CT drops below 167. Note this is from an early 08 FSM, anyone with a newer version see if the numbers are the same. Zack | ||

The fans do NOT change direction. They only turn one direction and blow thru the rads to the inboard. When you're stopped, you will feel the warmth in front. When moving, they push the hot air to the center of the bike and it is ducted thru the frame and out the back over the tire. The fans DO run at 70 mph if the temp is high enough. While you're riding, see if CT is above 170, hold your hand under the seat/tail section, VERY warm air... Zack | ||
