(posting for a friend-- This is a brand new bike with less than 1,000 km)
I have had the oil pressure light come on a couple of times on the Buell, after a bit of spirited riding. I shut things down and let it cool off, then when I fire it up again the light does not stay on. The oil level is to max on the dipstick. Have you had this happen? Any ideas? Thanks.

Oil shouldn't be anywhere near max on the dipstick, sounds like he is way overfilled or has a oil pump issue?

Put a pressure gauge where your oil pressure sensor and see if it's within specification.

If it is, then check the wiring (I assume it's a normally closed circuit) then determine if you need a new pressure sensor switch.

If not, could be your oil pump drive gear. Drop the oil pump and look inside. Plenty of information in KV. Also open your oil filter.

make the dealer do what sloppy said.... but I am betting somebody just over filled it. is it smoking? if it is you should check your 02 sensors and spark plugs too.

Nik, is that due to the changes in 2008 (I think) where the oil system was modified?

If he doesn't have oil pressure I'd still look inside... ; )

I don't have book in front of me, but I believe the light turns on if there's not enough pressure or if there's too much pressure.

There might be too much oil in there.
