Does anyone with an X1 have the chin fairing touching the exhaust? Just one of those questions for a miserable eastern winter. |

RoadKing, I just bought a race header and an S-trapp for my S1W. I haven't put it on yet (still polishing), but all acounts are that the S-trapp fits OK on the race header. The race header has a "shoe" mount that straps to the collector. The shoe mount should be better than the stock S-trapp clamp because it hangs on both sides of the hanger/isolator instead of just one. The stock S-trapp front strap seems pretty cheesy to me. I know you can buy just the shoe because the race header I just bought didn't have one and my dealer had to buy it separate. I'm assuming that the distance from the isolator mount to the pipe surface must be about the same since the S-Trapp uses the same rear mount. Those that have mounted the S-trapp- the instructions say to dril the pipe and j-Pipe and to put a small flat head rivet under the t-bolt strap to lock the pipe to the header. Does that really work? Seems pretty tiny to use just one. Have people had problems with the muff separating from the header (or j pipe). Al |

Al, I got some good advice from JimA regading this. What I did was drill the muff to the elbow added another t-bolt on the elbow in front of the junction of the elbow and muffler. Then safety wired them together. I used the stock mount strap for now. seems solid but may see if the slipper mount for the race header will line up with the s-trapp elbow and header support bracket. FYI - worked great with the 2001 exhaust hanger. later... Rich |

Hey Richy, About the chin fairing touching the exhaust. Do you have a stock exhuast or slip on and were is it touching? Mine is touching on the left side of the bike up agianst the V&H SSR2 carbon fiber slip on. It hasn't burned or melted but I still plan on using a dremel tool to shave about a 3/8 to 1/4 inch off like the instruction sheet suggested. For some reason the carbon fiber doesn't get very hot on the outside. So I haven't made an urgent issue out of trimming the fairing. Airborne |

Richy, My chin fairing was touching the exhaust (Yoshimura) so I shaved 1/4 inch off. Still wasn't happy so I removed the chin fairing. It didn't have a function in the first place. I like it better without but that's just a matter of taste :+) "May the Buell be with you" GrizzlyB |

Grizzly / Airborne I have a supertrapp ids on my X1. I too shaved a bit off with a razor. It is the stock fairing. The clearance is still a bit tight but does not press into it. I believe the the plastic is somewhat resilient to the heat. I still may trim a bit more off when I get the chance. I guess it is all custom off the show room floor. Thx Guys!! Rich ---- |

Loki : I was in touch with people at Yoshimura a few months ago, asking about the availability of their muffler for Buell. I was told that indeed they don't produce it anymore. Maybe you can still find one somewhere at a dealer place, unsold. |

Supertrapp IDS on X1s: I was told by a very reputable Harley drag-bike builder to not drill for the locating screw; he says it's a waste of time, and can create an exhaust leak. My chin-fairing touches the muffler, but I got the Supertrapp ceramic-coated inside and out, so it's not causing any problems. David |

Yosh pipe looks nice! I like the incongruity of Japanese wrting on an H-D powered bike. I have a Yosh 'race only' pipe on my 400 Bandit, sounds excellent. BTW,Wileyco has a nice little website and the owner is a fetchin' babe. |

Started the bike up for the first time with the trapp. Sounds nice. Starting with 12 disks (k&N filter and race ecm) Runs like it's been congested for awhile. One question on the trapp. While running it I can feel some exhaust where the muffler joins the elbow. Seems to escape where the inlet pipe comes out of the muffler. Is that pipe welded in or is it part of the core? Also I put some high temp permatex when I slipped the muffler on. Sorry for the stupid questions. Thanks all!!! Rich ----- |

Jerome, You were correct. I looked at the front mount bracket of the Supertrapp, and it's clamped on either side of the mount as instructed, but I'm going to clamp the ends together on one side of the mount so the clamp closes more. Could I have said 'clamp' any more times? Also, Supertrapp is making new brackets for the '01 Buells; I'm on a list for them when they're produced. David |

David, How did you get on the list for the 01 trapp bracket? I just looked at the slight leak again - it was blowing out the bottom where the muffler slips over the elbow. Patience... Let the permatex dry! Had good luck mounting with the 01 bracket and drilled for the retension rivot. A little added security - have had trapps pull out on dirt bikes. Later... Richy ----- |

Richy, Call Supertrapp and say you have a '01 Buell, and the brackets you have don't really fit correctly. That's how I got on the list. |

Jerome, I always did like the YOSH on my Kaw. When I was a ponderin my choices for the M2, I looked over at the Kaw and thought about stealing the YOSH from it and putting a new nose on it. Let me see, hmmmm, it even has a 2.5" inlet. You never know do ya.... loki |

KenW is the winner of a free subscription to the french magazine Cafe-Racer ! Thanks to him, I've found the so-much-desired X1 race header in the middle of Minnesota. I should receive it mid next week ! By the way, if somebody else is looking as well for a X1 race header, to be mounted with a SuperTrapp muffler, there's another one available right now at HD/Buell of Boston, Massachussetts. Will keep you posted on my impression about torque and power when moving from the standard to the race header with a Trapp. And by another way, TAT at ASB was in touch with West Tek about their copy of the race header. It is said that the boss of West Tek should build one header soon or later... If you're on a hurry, it's not the way to look at apparently. Anyway, thanks a lot to TAT for having taken care of the inquiry. |

All.... I'm a rookie to the sight! I was wondering if anyone knows if the BOSS will fit on a Buell race header pipe? I've heard some great things about the BOSS and was thinking of replacing my race kit muffler. Thanks 4runner |

al_lighton ( and any other Supertrapp users): I seem to have solved my problem with breaking mounts. I rubber-mounted both ends of the muffler using strapping from an automotive tailpipe hanger kit. I also built a new rear mounting strap out of 1/8" hot-rolled steel. The new set-up costs me a half inch or so of ground clearance, due to the length of the strap, but I doubt that that will be meaningful in the real world. I'm no machinist, it's not real pretty, but I've put a couple of hundred miles on it with no signs of loosening or cracking. I'll keep my fingers crossed! |

Peter : the race header costs $400. Not cheap, but I don't know a good exhaust specialist here which could reproduce the race shape for a reasonable price. Or I should have made an order for one hundred of them to get a discount... An get in trouble because of Buell patents... :-) |

I got the picture up, but the text didn't follow it. That (trapp mount 2) is the rear rubber mount I built to hang the Supertrapp on my S1. Let's see if I can get the front mount on with this message... So far, I've put about 400 miles on this setup without anything breaking or falling off.

Al Lighton, You wrote, "Have people had problems with the muff separating from the header (or j pipe)." Raising my hand, I did with my S1 and slip-on SuperTrapp. The problem with slip-ons is that they can slip off if everything is not 100% secure. I happened to lose the rear mounting bolt on the 'Trapp during one of our first high speed S.C.A.B. runs. The rear of the muff was dragging and the front clamp had slipped a little. The only thing preventing complete disaster was the chin fairing which kept the pipe from coming all the way off. So if I were to remount the pipe (it's still useable) I would probably double nut the rear mounting bolts, drill the front clamp area for a security pin, and fashion a new front mount to use the stock bracket not used by the 'Trapp. But I'm not fond of under-designed aftermarket stuff breaking my ceramic coated headers, so I'll probably leave it stock for now. It's Permatex Ultra-Copper High Temp RTV Silicon Sealant and it's available from any automotive parts store. Don't forget to pick up a tube of red and a tube of blue Loctite. Helps keeps the parts on. :-) DAve |

X1 race header : for those who are looking for it, there's one right now on the shelf of both HD/Buell of Boston, Massachussetts, and HD/Buell of Gainesville, Florida. Easy to couple to a SuperTrapp IDS, it's a good alternative to the full exhaust race kit, as one as still to wait for the recalled race muffler. |

Here are some pics of the supertrapp on my X1. For those of you who have the trapp, does yours angle down a bit towards the rear? Mine drops about a 1/4 ". When I installed the pipe I made sure everything fit and hung naturally without trying to apply any stress to the components. I installed the safty pin and added an additional t-bolt to safty wire the t-bolt that clamps the muffler to the elbow. I used permatex on the muffler becouse I was getting a slight exhaust leak where it joins the elbow.
